Scream counters are a type of counter introduced in Tempest. They have acted as a suspend like effect and as a +1/+0 counter.
Description
Scream counters first appeared on All Hallow's Eve in Legends as an unnamed counter before it was given errata to be Scream counters. It is a sorcery that is exiled with two Scream counters on it with one being removed each upkeep. Once it has no counters on it, it activates and each player returns all creatures from the graveyard to the battlefield. In this case, the counters act similarly to the Suspend mechanic and time counters.
They appeared again in Tempest on Endless Scream with a different effect. It is an Aura that can be cast with mana which makes it enter the battlefield with that many Scream counters on it granting +1/+0 for each counter on it.
Trivia
- In Magic Online, the counter is colored blue as its considered a neutral effect and shares its icon with Burden and Pain counters.[1]
