Wish counters are a type of counter introduced in Magic 2010. They have been used on various cards as a resource for activated abilities that have a type of Tutor effect for getting a card from the library. Thus far, all of its uses start with 3 wish counters to represent the popular mythology concept of "3 wishes" with each use of an ability representing a wish for a card.

Description

Wish counters first appeared on Djinn of Wishes in Magic 2010. They act as a resource for the creature's ability in that it starts with 3 of the counters and then can spend them in an activated ability to reveal and play the top card of the library without its cost or exile it.

Ring of Three Wishes in Magic 2014 saw the counters return. It also entered play with 3 wish counters which could be spent on its ability to search the library for a specific card and put it into the player's hand.

The counters returned in Throne of Eldraine on Wishclaw Talisman which similarly enters the battlefield with 3 wish counters. They allow a player to similarly search the library for a specific card but the Talisman changes control to an opponent player after each use.
