Fetch counters are a type of counter introduced in Commander 2020. They are used as part of a partner ability that allows for exiled cards with the counter to be cast by the player.

Description

Fetch counters first appeared on Pako, Arcane Retriever and Haldan, Avid Arcanist in Commander 2020. They are creatures with Partner for each other and have abilities that work with the counters. Whenever Pako attacks, the top card of each player's library is exiled with a Fetch counter on it. Pako gains a +1/+1 counter on it for each non-creature exiled that way. Haldan then can play cards that were exiled with fetch counters using mana of any color as the mana cost. The counters represent Halden's ability to fetch the cards Pako exiled.

Fetch counters were used in Alchemy: Eldraine by Hex, Kellan's Companion for similar purposes but utilizing the designed-for-digital mechanics.
