Winch counters are a type of counter introduced in Mercadian Masques. They act as a resource for moving creatures from the player's hand onto the battlefield.
Description
Winch counters first appeared on Mercadian Lift in Mercadian Masques. It is an artifact with the ability to add Winch counters to itself. It can then use another ability to remove counters and place a creature with that mana value from the player's hand onto the battlefield without paying its mana cost. This represents the Winch of the Lift moving the creatures between the two zones.
Trivia
- In Magic Online, the counter is colored green as its considered a positive effect and shares its icon with Magnet, Mine, Mining, Ore, Pressure, Silver, Storage, and Trap counters.[1]
