Mending Era
The Mending Era was the historical period following the Great Mending of 4500 AR, when the repair of Dominaria's time rifts drastically weakened planeswalkers throughout the Multiverse. Once near-immortal and godlike, most planeswalkers became mortal or long-lived mages with limited abilities, although still capable of traveling between planes. The era lasted 62 years and was defined by rapid political realignments, the resurgence of ancient threats, and the first coordinated, multiversal responses to interplanar crises.
Description
The Mending Era opened in a time of relative quiet, but across the planes, new powers began to rise in the vacuum left by the diminished old guard of planeswalkers. On Lorwyn-Shadowmoor, the Great Aurora cycle culminated in the Fusion of Lorwyn-Shadowmoor, reshaping the plane’s seasonal identity. Elsewhere, the Infinite Consortium collapsed, ending a major interplanar mercantile and espionage network.
The Conflux reunited the shards of Alara, sparking wars between their disparate cultures. On Zendikar, the Release of the Eldrazi by Sarkhan Vol, Chandra Nalaar, Jace Beleren, and Nissa Revane set in motion a chain of events that would reverberate for decades. New Phyrexia was created after the corruption of Mirrodin by the Phyrexian oil, while Innistrad endured the Siege of Thraben, the Sundering of the Helvault, and the Travails leading to the Unmaking of Avacyn and the Battle of Thraben.
On Ravnica, the guilds contended with the Implicit Maze race culminating in the Supreme Verdict creating the Living Guildpact, and later the War of the Spark, the first multiversal war fought on a single plane, orchestrated by Nicol Bolas and opposed by the newly formed Gatewatch. Other worlds faced their own upheavals: the Silence of the Gods and fall of Xenagos on Theros, the Aether Revolt on Kaladesh, the rediscovery of Orazca on Ixalan, and the War of the Gods on Kaldheim.
In the final year of the era, tensions escalated with the Adversary War on Capenna and the Second Phyrexian Invasion of Dominaria, during which Teferi's Temporal Projection sought to recover the lost knowledge of the Golgothian Sylex. These conflicts fed directly into the New Phyrexian Invasion, a full-scale multiversal war that drew in nearly every major power of the planes. The Phyrexians were ultimately defeated, but the Desparkening that followed stripped most surviving planeswalkers of their sparks. Simultaneously, the sudden appearance of stable Omenpaths created new channels of interplanar travel, marking the beginning of the Omenpath Era.
