Acclaim Entertainment
Acclaim Entertainment was an American video game developer and publisher, as well as a comic book publisher. It was founded in 1987, and filed for bankruptcy in 2004.
Acclaim developed the Playstation game Magic: The Gathering - BattleMage, as well as Magic: The Gathering: Armageddon, an arcade game which was manufactured in extremely limited numbers prior to the closure of Acclaim's coin-operated games division.
A subsidiary, Acclaim Comics, published comics for Acclaim's own intellectual property, and also published comics for external franchises under the Armada imprint. Armada (stylized ARMADA) published several Magic: The Gathering comics in 1995 and 1996.
Armada
Acclaim was founded exclusively as a video game publisher, relying on external developers and localizing overseas titles.[1] In 1994, Acclaim Entertainment entered the comics industry through the purchase of Valiant Comics. The company continued to publish Valiant's own franchises, and also contracted with other parties to publish comics under a new imprint, Armada.[2] Armada's Magic comics lined up with the release of Battlemage.
After a flush of releases, Armada's Magic line ended abruptly at the end of 1996. In 2004, Acclaim filed for bankruptcy, and the rights to its intellectual property were acquired by multiple parties.
