The Queen Bay's Company is a commercial venture that works for the benefit of the people of Torrezon on Ixalan. it is also a cover for a fanatical offshoot from the vampire Legion of Dusk.

Description

After the end of the Phyrexian invasion, Alta Torrezon was eager to fund a series of expeditions to the continent of Ixalan. Considering the simmering tensions within the church and to ensure neutrality in their overseas endeavors, Queen Miralda ordered the Legion of Dusk to create a new commercial venture that would work for the benefit of the people of Torrezon: the Queen's Bay Company. The company is an organization of merchants, traders, captains, miners, and their patrons all united together in a single commercial project: the extraction, transportation, refinement, and sale of goods, treasures, and resources from Ixalan.[1]

The company's neutrality is, on paper, ensured by its unique independent ownership structure: a stake of ownership in the company is made available to those who can afford to purchase one (or more). The crown, church, and Legion together each own a significant number of the company's shares, amounting to roughly half of the company. The remaining balance is owned by various interests, nobles, bankers, and wealthy merchants — many of whom work for the company directly or benefit from partnerships with the company. Granted an exclusive charter to the old fortresses in Queen's Bay on Ixalan, empowered by the Legion's paladins, and the sole supplier of cosmium on Torrezon, the Queen's Bay Company rapidly became a major power player in Torrezon's politics despite its relative youth as an institution.[1] However, the company quickly became infested by bloodthirsty eschatological fanatics who thought they could bring about the Age of Blood by returning Aclazotz to Alta Torrezon.[2]

The director of the Queen's Bay Company is Director Infanta Elena de Silos. The company's deputy director is Bartolomé del Presidio, while Vito Quijano de Pasamonte led its most notable expedition.[3]

To Ixalan's Core

Embarking on an expedition to locate the temple of Aclazotz, members of the Company including Amalia Benavides Aguirre, Bartolomé del Presidio, Clavileño, and Vito Quijano de Pasamonte entered the continent of Ixalan.[4] The expedition was composed of about thirty members, between the soldiers, the servants, and the penitents seeking absolution for crimes committed in Torrezon. Throughout the journey through the temple of Aclazotz to Ixalan's Core, two human porters were sacrificed, an additional porter and prisoner were killed by mantis-spiders, and another porter, soldier, two prisoners, and a horse were taken by a sand trap.[3]

The vampires made their way through the caverns, encountering various traps and hazards.[3] At one point, the planar traveler Kellan joined the party, although Vito was displeased with the decision. Eventually, they happened upon an ancient stone city that held the door to the Core of Ixalan, where a party of various Sun Empire soldiers and River Heralds happened to be. The vampires convinced the party to bring them along into the Core, as Vito knew that Aclazotz would lie inside.

Upon entry, the party encountered the Oltec, who welcomed most of them but imprisoned the vampires due to their distrust of them. Vito engineered a violent escape, and he and other soldiers set out to find Aclazotz. Along the way, he was joined by some worshippers of Aclazotz native to the core and kidnapped Oltec citizens to use as blood sacrifices. When he reached the place of Aclazotz's binding, he fed these people to the ancient god, who broke his bindings. In return, the bat god bestowed his blessing on Vito and his followers, turning them into batlike demons.[5]

While Aclazotz attacked Chimil, the inner sun, to deprive the core of light, Vito and his followers rampaged into the Oltec city, taking citizens to feed to their god. They were met with resistance by the Oltec army and by the Sun Empire party. They enjoined the soldiers in battle and killed Huatli's cousin Inti, but the former planeswalker attacked Vito, summoning a horde of dinosaurs and killing him with his lance.[6]

Aclazotz escaped, securing passage to Torrezon on a Dusk Legion ship.[6] He decided that he would find Vona, hoping that she would make better use of his power than Vito.
