Description

New Argive is bordered by the Videnthian Sea in the northeast[3], the Visceral Sea in the east, the Shattered Sea in the southeast, the Shielded Sea in the southwest,[4], and the Sea of Laments in the west.

Treva, the Renewer is the primeval dragon of New Argive. New Argive is home to two nations of dragons. Alabaster Dragons are serene and wise and can be seen soaring at high altitudes among the clouds. They rarely touch the ground, spending weeks aloft.[5] The dragons of Kher Ridges are destructive predators ruled by the hellkite Prossh.

New Argive's chief nation is the eponymous New Argive, a diverse nation of immigrants inhabited by Humans, Dwarves, Kor, Orcs, and Aven.[6] A nation of archaeologists and historians, it is considered a major seat of learning, and its universities and museums are unrivaled within the Terisian Isles.[7][8]

History

The nation of New Argive was formed in 2954 AR by Balduvia and Kjeldor after the end of Dominaria's Ice Age, in the first few years of the Thaw.

In 3224 AR, the Sheoltun Occupation happened, and New Argive was conquered by the Sheoltun Empire based out of Benfosa (modern-day Benalia).[5]

In 3274 AR, the uprising in Epityr was the straw that broke the Sheoltuns' back, and the already fading empire soon after lost all control of eastern Terisiare. The Argivians were able to push the Sheoltun out with the aid the songmage Thabit and his summoned Serra Angels.[9] Serranism remains a popular religion in New Argive.[5]

In 3307 AR, Karn arrived somewhere in New Argive in conjunction with one of Urza's and Barrin's time travel experiments. There, Karn witnessed the aftermath of a grueling battle with many dead humans. He found a shield, a New Argivian bracer, indicating that one side of the battle was the defenders of the New Argivian nation. Who the New Argivians were fighting against at this point is unknown, but Sheoltun stragglers or counter-insurgents seem likely.[10]

New Argive was devastated during the second phase of the Phyrexian Invasion but recovered. However, the country had to deal with an infiltration by Cabal agents.[1]

In the lead-up to the Second Phyrexian Invasion of Dominaria, New Argive was considered the most powerful armed force on the continent of Terisiare.[11] King Darien XLVIII put the nobleman Stenn in charge of discovering Phyrexian sleeper agents. However, as Stenn was one himself, he used the position to infect Argivia with Phyrexians.[12]
