The Battle of Lat-Nam was an event that happened in 4077 AR on the island of Lat-Nam.[1]

Description

The Battle of Lat-Nam was a pivotal conflict in the struggle between Greensleeves' growing army of wizard-hunters and the coalition of rival wizards seeking control over the Stone Brain. The battle took place near the ruins of the famed College of Lat-Nam, which had been devastated during the Brothers' War and had since become a toxic wasteland, partially submerged beneath the sea.

Greensleeves led an expedition to the island of Lat-Nam to unearth the truth behind the Stone Brain, a powerful artifact created by the Sages of Lat-Nam. Accompanied by her brother Gull and their forces, they sought to uncover the artifact's secrets, believing it could hold the key to controlling enemy wizards. Upon arriving, they found Lat-Nam heavily guarded by Duler Angels and the merfolk of the Copper Conch, who had been tasked by the long-extinct sages to protect the ruins. After a costly battle that claimed many of Greensleeves' soldiers, she managed to befriend the guardians and began excavating the ruins.

Despite fierce resistance from ancient, still-functioning artifact creatures left behind from the war, the expedition uncovered a tunnel leading to the submerged ruins of the College. Greensleeves was then taken underwater by the Lord of Atlantis, who brought her to the remains of the College. There, she used necromantic magic to commune with the skull of a long-dead Sage, learning the true nature of the Stone Brain: it had the power to completely strip wizards of their magic — or grant it to anyone.

As Greensleeves returned to her camp with this knowledge, the wizards opposing her — led by Towser and Karli — launched a surprise attack. The battle quickly escalated into a siege, with both sides suffering heavy losses. During the fighting, Haakon unleashed a fireball at Gull, seemingly killing him. In her grief and rage, Greensleeves abandoned her long-held belief in the sanctity of all life. She retaliated with a devastating magical attack, killing Haakon and trapping the remaining enemy wizards in the poisoned desert.

Fueled by the raw mana of Lat-Nam, Greensleeves summoned a Force of Nature, absorbing its immense energy and ascending into a godlike state. In this form, she lost her humanity, perceiving her allies and enemies alike as insignificant compared to her newfound cosmic awareness. Just as she was about to unleash an apocalyptic display of power, Kwam managed to reach her, revealing that both Gull and her other brother Sparrow Hawk had survived. This revelation snapped her back to her senses.

Instead of using her overwhelming power for destruction, Greensleeves made the ultimate sacrifice: she channeled all her mana into the land itself, purging Lat-Nam of its lingering poisons and transforming the desolate wasteland into a lush paradise. In doing so, she surrendered her planeswalker powers, returning to a mortal existence.[2]

With the battle over, the true nature of the Stone Brain was revealed. It could not only strip magic from wizards, as demonstrated on Towser — who went mad after being rendered powerless — but also grant magic to anyone. Recognizing the danger of this secret, Greensleeves chose to keep this knowledge to herself. She was declared the High Wizard of the Domains by her followers, with all the remaining enemy wizards - Dwen, Fabia, Immugio, and Karli, submitting to her. The Battle of Lat-Nam was a defining moment in the history of the Domains, signifying both the peak of Greensleeves' power and the moment of her greatest sacrifice. It left a lasting legacy: the once-poisoned land had been revived, but the fate of magic itself had been placed in the hands of those who wielded the Stone Brain.
