Vryn is the homeplane of the blue-aligned planeswalker Jace Beleren.[2]
Description
The landscape of Vryn is littered with lines of gigantic inhabited mage-rings. Their age and origin are unknown, and many are in disrepair. The rings are controlled by ring mages and are conduits of mana. Enormous mana collection stations channel the energy of the leylines into the ring network.
The plane is often rainy.[3] Jace Beleren described its smell as petrichor and charged ozone.
History
The Core States, sitting in the middle of the ring network, gathered all the energy of an entire continent for use by the mage elite from the Ampryn League. Power over the Core States and the mana stream was contested by the Trovian Separatists.[4] Arbiters work to keep the conflict from escalating into destroying Vryn's infrastructure, but not all were concerned about the civilian cost of the war.[2]
After the death of the arbiter Alhammarret, the fighting intensified and culminated in non-stop chaos. That particular section of Vryn became a failed state, with no permanent governance and continual unstable coups.[5]
Vryn was a target in New Phyrexia's Invasion of the Multiverse. Jace was directed to lead the invasion force, but his telepathic defense against psychic intrusion meant he was less effective as a commander. The denizens of Vryn were constantly prepared for war already, and defeated the Phyrexians by overloading the mage-rings,[6] with the invasion ending a sometime before the end of Ravnica's invasion.[3]

Culture
The inhabitants of Vryn use special nuptial bracelets to celebrate their marriages.[5] The bride also dresses in the groom's family colors. The healer Ranna Beleren developed a method using Phoenix feathers in medicine as an alternative to organ replacement.

Trivia
- Vryn was first shown on Trail of the Mage-Rings.
- The inhabitants of the mage-rings are known as "ringers".[4]
- Large numbers of ring-mages are required to manage incoming mana pulses, which can arrive at any hour of the day or night.[4]
- In April 2023, shortly after the release of March of the Machine, Mark Rosewater held a poll on his Tumblr account[7] asking which plane featured on a battle in the set players would most like to see return in a premier set. Vryn came in second with 18% of the vote, losing only to Xerex, which won 27% of the vote.
- During the planning of the Phyrexian Arc, two consecutive sets on Vryn were planned for release in the slots that would eventually become the sets Streets of New Capenna and Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty.[8] However, both sets were cut before they entered Exploratory Design.[9]
