The Planeswalker War was a large-scale war that took place on Corondor in 4197 AR.[2][1]

Description

The Planeswalker War was a battle of large proportions fought on the land of Corondor. It pitted powerful planeswalkers against one another, fueled by old rivalries, betrayals, and ambitions. At the heart of the conflict were the machinations of Ravidel, the treacherous battlemage, and the desperate struggles of Jared Carthalion, Taysir, and their allies to resist him. This war left an indelible mark upon Corondor, scarring its lands and skies forever.

The lead-up to the war started with the Elder Druid of Corondor searching for Jared Carthalion. The druid encountered Yorgo, now the ruler of the ruins of Arathoxia, who led him to Jared. At that moment, Jared was tending to Kristina of the Woods as she gave birth to their daughter, Justina Carthalion. The Elder Druid, revealing that he bore the crescent-moon Mark of the Elder Druid, warned of the coming war and the necessity of preparation. The Quirion exarchs Amadis and Finovar, along with the Visionary Kadesha, witnessed Justina’s birth as the gravity of impending conflict loomed over them.

Meanwhile, Ravidel paid a visit to the island of Urborg, attempting to recruit Lord Windgrace to his cause. Spinning a tale that cast Jared as a villain, Ravidel sought to manipulate the panther warrior. However, Windgrace, an isolationist, dismissed Ravidel’s ploys, asserting that planeswalkers’ interventions had only brought ruin. Before departing, Ravidel took a shard of Urborgan obsidian with him, a token of the upcoming war.

Elsewhere, the enigmatic Lord of House Khone convened a war council, only to be interrupted by the sudden arrival of Freyalise. She had altered her appearance, donning cropped hair and an eyepiece, floating slightly above the ground with an ethereal presence. Freyalise foresaw the danger heralded by the Mox Beacon, which would soon draw the ruthless Tevesh Szat to Corondor. Recognizing the Lord of Khone’s hidden identity, she vowed to keep his secrets safe. Together, they summoned and bound Sol’Kanar the Swamp King, ensuring that any black magic wielded by Ravidel would ultimately feed into Freyalise’s strength, granting her greater power to oppose Szat.

Eskil the White, residing in the White Woods and burdened by the sins of his ancestor Xarl, sensed an impending threat. His hut was suddenly destroyed by Embereck, an Ash Warlord drawn to Corondor by the Mox Beacon. Mistakenly believing Eskil responsible for his summoning, Embereck attacked. Rather than engage in battle within the White Woods, Eskil transported them both to New Argive, where Embereck recognized the land. Through careful discussion, Eskil uncovered a startling revelation: a thousand years prior, Embereck had retrieved the Golgothian Sylex and fought Ravidel, ultimately sparing him. Now, faced with the truth of Ravidel’s deceit and the war he had instigated, Embereck agreed to stand against him.

High above Dominaria, Daria awaited her father, Taysir, on the Null Moon. As she monitored events on Corondor, she was caught off guard by the arrival of two powerful and sinister planeswalkers: Tevesh Szat and Leshrac, Walker of Night. Szat, unwilling to leave witnesses, intended to kill her, but Leshrac convinced him otherwise, proposing that she instead be imprisoned within an Amber Prison. With that done, Szat and Leshrac rekindled an old ambition — to conquer the world.

In Telemar City, Ravidel, Jared's grandfather Grenfell Mor, and the minotaur Sandruu clashed in a moment of deception. Ravidel, a master manipulator, attempted to recruit Sandruu by exploiting his lingering feelings for Kristina. Showing Sandruu misleading images of Kristina with Jared, he stoked the minotaur’s fury. Enraged, Sandruu stormed off to find Jared, unwittingly playing into Ravidel’s larger scheme.

Daria, still imprisoned within the Amber Prison on the Null Moon, was able to extend her mind beyond her confinement. She sought out Taysir, only to bear witness to the turmoil unfolding on Corondor. Her vision led her first to the ruins of Castle Melmereth, where Jared Carthalion and Sandruu clashed. Jared had been sent to retrieve the spellbook of Geyadrone Dihada, believing the summoning of Dakkon Blackblade could aid Corondor’s cause. However, Sandruu, believing Jared had taken advantage of Kristina, intervened. Though he struggled, Jared managed to escape with the spellbook.

Meanwhile, Ravidel, having conquered the city of Shikar, assembled five stones of different colors into a new artifact, using the black shard of obsidian from Urborg. The finished artifact was activated, suppressing the spellcasting of the planeswalkers drawn into the war. In Telemar, Tevesh Szat, frustrated by his suddenly waning power, turned his wrath upon Grenfell Mor, uncovering the secret of the Grey Chime — an artifact of devastating power scattered across Corondor’s five noble houses. Intent on acquiring it, Szat abandoned Telemar to pursue the chime’s fragments.

As Eskil helped the Shikarans to flee the fall of their city, Leshrac and Embereck confronted Ravidel, but with their magic weakened, they stood little chance. Embereck perished in the battle, and Leshrac fled. Ravidel, believing himself victorious, was soon confronted by his master, Taysir. Their reunion quickly soured as Taysir denounced Ravidel’s actions. Feeling betrayed yet again, Ravidel lashed out, nearly defeating his mentor until the time-mage Teferi could intervene.

Meanwhile, Tevesh Szat succeeded in gathering the fragments of the Grey Chime. Daria, desperate to prevent its use, reached out to Eskil, who relayed the warning to Jared’s allies. As Szat prepared to activate the chime, Kristina, Sandruu, and Freyalise launched their assault on Telemar. In the chaos, Leshrac seized the opportunity to claim the chime. He rang it, and as the others escaped, Kristina grabbed the chime and planeswalked to the Blind Eternities as Telemar went up in a mushroom cloud.

To avenge Kristina, Jared charged at Ravidel — only to realize his foe was standing in a trap made by Teferi. As the sky shifted colors from the Grey Chime’s destruction, a Force of Nature phased in and seized Ravidel. Ravidel's attempt to summon a Personal Incarnation backfired due to the Chime’s chaos, triggering a magical explosion, and creating a huge sinkhole under Hamath. The ground beneath Ravidel collapsed, sending him plunging into the abyss, while the summoned Dakkon Blackblade routed his forces. Ravidel was not heard from again and was assumed to be dead.

With the war winding down and the survivors gathering, Kristina reappeared from the Blind Eternities, scarred but alive. She had managed to escape the explosion but had lost her planeswalker spark in the process. She and Jared, weary of the endless conflicts of planeswalkers, chose to live mortal lives together in Kristina’s Woods, raising their daughter under Dakkon’s protection. Jared also accepted his destiny as Corondor’s Elder Druid. Taysir, having faced his past mistakes, reconciled with Sandruu. Freyalise, recognizing her responsibilities, pledged to aid in Corondor’s restoration alongside Eskil. Teferi retrieved Daria's Amber Prison, and with Eskil’s help, freed her at last.

Though the war had ended, Corondor remained forever changed. The Grey Chime’s detonation left the skies over the land stained with eerie hues, and the three lost cities of Shikar, Telemar, and Hamath would be a constant reminder of the devastating conflict that had transpired. The legacy of the Planeswalker War, its betrayals, sacrifices, and triumphs, would echo through the annals of history, shaping the fate of Dominaria for generations to come.[5]
