Clavileño was a Legion of Dusk vampire cleric from Ixalan. He was granted demonic power by Aclazotz before his death.[1]
Description
Clavileño had cold eyes and a rough demeanor.[2] He was a true believer of the Church of Dusk, the first follower of Vito Quijano de Pasamonte, a zealot of Vona de Iedo, and a worshiper of Aclazotz.[3]
History
Clavileño was once a paladin for the Legion of Dusk.[3] Queen Miralda's order that paladins remain in Alta Torrezon while the Free Cities of the West were decimated by the Phyrexian Invasion, followed by an order that paladins slay rogue vampires who fed on the innocent during the following famine, made Clavileño disillusioned with his monarch. Becoming a zealot for the Antifex, Vona de Iedo, he decided to sail west to the continent of Ixalan, where he had heard stories of a vampire who wished to restore order to the Church. Arriving there, he found Vito Quijano de Pasamonte, becoming his first follower and joining his expedition with the Queen's Bay Company.
Clavileño was the commander of the soldiers who protected the Company's expedition to Ixalan in 5 Dawn Era.[2] After finding and releasing Aclazotz, Vito, Clavileño and the other remaining vampires were transformed into demonic vampire-bats.[1] In the ensuing battle in the core, his ear was sliced in half by Inti before he killed the Sun Empire warrior. He was subsequently killed in revenge by Caparocti Sunborn.[4]
Inspiration
Clavileño is the name of the fictional wooden horse ridden by Don Quixote in his eponymous novel. It comes from a combination of the Spanish words clavija ("peg") + leño ("wood"). The connection may be intentional, as Clavileño's superior Vito Quijano de Pasamonte shares his surname with the title character.
