Eriette is a powerful witch from Eldraine.
Description
Eriette is a beautiful woman with platinum-blonde hair and rich gold eyes but she is vain and controlling.[1][2] She wears a black gown with a glass Medici collar that reflects an aged crone, suggesting she uses a glamour to mask her appearance. She carries a glass apple with strands of translucent violet snaking out, her gift from the fae lord Talion.
She is the sister of Agatha, Hylda, and an unnamed witch who was the birth mother of the Kenrith twins.[3][4][1] After New Phyrexia's Invasion of the Multiverse, she claimed Castle Ardenvale and declared herself the Ardent Queen.
History
The Wicked Slumber
Eriette and her sisters Agatha and Hylda helped the faerie Talion cast the Wicked Slumber to end the Phyrexian Invasion of Eldraine.[3][5] In exchange, Talion gave her the Charmed Apple, which grants her the love of anyone who takes a bite.[6] However, the witches deigned not to undo the spell even after the defeat of the Praetors, leaving a slowly destabilizing kingdom on both sides of the veil. Eriette specifically reanimated the sleeping forms as a court of her own in the ruins of Ardenvale, assisted by Ashiok.
When Rowan Kenrith approached Ardenvale in search of an answer to the Slumber, Eriette enticed her with the promise of power, regard, and security.[1] She was captured during an attack by Will Kenrith and his knights, but was later freed by Jace Beleren, who masqueraded as Ashiok.[7][8]
Thunder Junction
Eriette and "Ashiok" arrived on Thunder Junction, where Jace had a plot to claim the treasure in the plane's ancient vault, Maag Taranau. Eriette joined the criminal gang that Oko put together at Ashiok's behest.[9] In preparation for the heist, she worked with Annie Flash to break Kaervek and Satoru Umezawa out of prison. Oko later recruited his son Kellan into the gang. Eriette recognized him from the attack on Castle Ardenvale but put her objections aside for the mission's sake.[10]
Eventually, the team managed to secure the vault's key, and Oko opened it for Jace and Vraska.[11] Jace revealed himself and secured his prize, a young creature named Loot. However, he set off a trap that would cause the vault to collapse. With Kellan's backup, the team made it out safely. Displeased with this outcome, Eriette told Oko that she would be willing to team up with him again for a greater prize or to get revenge against Jace.
Inspiration
As an evil queen who wants to be the fairest of the land, Eriette is based on the evil queen of Snow White.[3] Notably, she never interacts with the analog of the princess, Neva.
