Plane | Kylem |
Valor's Reach is a towering stadium in Cloudspire City on the plane of Kylem, renowned as the premier arena for martial and magical competitions.[1] Celebrated for its dynamic and hazardous battlefield, the stadium attracts thousands of spectators from across Kylem and other planes, eager to witness contests of skill, strategy, and showmanship. Valor's Reach has earned a reputation as both a proving ground for elite fighters and a cultural landmark, shaping the careers of prominent warriors and inspiring generations of combatants in the art of teamwork and competitive magic.
Description
Visitors from across Kylem and beyond gather at Valor's Reach to witness intense competitions, filling the stadium's stands with thousands of enthusiastic spectators. Competitors aiming to fight here must first prove their skills by winning tournaments held in smaller arenas throughout Kylem, earning their qualification to compete at this premier venue. The stadium itself features a dynamic and constantly shifting battlefield, designed with numerous hazards and traps that compel fighters to remain aggressive and adapt quickly. Occasionally, specially bred arena beasts—known for their flashy appearances and notoriously bad tempers—are introduced to increase the challenge and excitement of the matches. These carefully crafted obstacles force combatants to anticipate several moves ahead to survive and succeed.
Combat
Valor's Reach hosts a variety of martial contests and martial magic competitions, with the most popular format being two-on-two team battles.[2][3] Over time, many competitors have battled within Valor's Reach, and several duos have become especially renowned for their skill, earning fame, glory, and occasionally controversy.
Matches at Valor's Reach are designed to be non-lethal and take place over multiple rounds. The primary objective for each team is to defeat its opponents with a combination of skill, creativity, and flair. Each team begins with a fixed number of points, which decreases as they sustain magical attacks or are subdued by their adversaries. This scoring is meticulously monitored and recorded by homunculi penalty mages stationed around the arena. When a team's points reach zero, the opposing team is declared the victor. However, some matches forgo point totals and instead determine the winner by "style points," which are awarded based on how much confetti the crowd showers in support of a team, emphasizing spectacular and crowd-pleasing performance.
Competitors often wield luminous, glowing weapons that serve both to captivate the audience and to distract their opponents. Meanwhile, homunculus wardens oversee the event, ensuring no illegal tactics are used and protecting spectators from stray spells, such as the occasional uncontrolled fireball that might escape the arena.
