Kylox was a viashino artificer from Ravnica, belonging to the Izzet League.[1] He was involved in the Murders at Karlov Manor and ultimately became one of their victims.[2]
Description
Kylox was a red-scaled viashino with short spikes atop his head.[2] He was a brilliant Izzet inventor whose ideas and inventions had been stolen multiple times, leading him to become excessively paranoid.[3] Anxious and cowardly, he never left Izzet-controlled territory if he could help it. He was a friend of Alquist Proft's and owed him favors. His guildmaster Ral Zarek considered him a good worker.
His compact laboratory was lit by a lightning elemental in a series of tubes.[2] It was decorated with bookshelves and hid a trapdoor to the Boilerpits. He frequently collaborated with the R.A.M.I. and was best known for inventing the projektors that the agency's detectives use to help visualize their investigations.[4]
History
Originally working in shared laboratories, Kylox was a victim of espionage and patent theft, causing him to move to a private lab.[2] During the Phyrexian Invasion, Kylox took note of some Phyrexian designs he could repurpose for his projects.[5]
Murders at Karlov Manor
Some days after the murder of Zegana, Kylox was enlisted by the archon Ezrim for a project he was to keep secret, which he moved to a secret tunnel under his laboratory after it was ransacked by Krenko's underlings.[2] While he was working on this project, Proft and Etrata came into his workspace to ask him to research a substance Proft believed was connected to the case. Kylox turned them down unless they could promise him safety. At that moment, Krenko's minions invaded the tunnel and kidnapped Kylox so the criminal could threaten him for information about the murders. Proft and Etrata followed him there and freed him, but he was accidentally killed by a brainwashed assassin sent to kill Krenko. After Proft revealed the mastermind behind the killings as Oba, the central dryad of Trostani, she justified Kylox's killing by blaming his work with Phyrexian technology.[5]

Trivia
- Kylox's character was originally called 'Ustith'. He appeared under that name on a promotional poster.[6]
- Kylox appears in the showcase version of Assemble the Players (Murders at Karlov Manor, #287), although he is already dead by this point in the story.
