Loot is a solitary being, a young beast of an unknown species and time that was discovered in stasis by the planeswalker Jace Beleren within Maag Taranau on Thunder Junction. As far as anyone knows, he is the only creature of his kind.[1] His relationship to the Fomori and the Coin Empire has been hinted at, but remains unclear.[2] At least Jace Beleren and Vraska think he is Fomori.[3]
Description
Loot's body is covered in fuzzy orange fur, and a single tuft of cream hair sits at the top of his head, wedged between two dark horns and a pair of pointed ears.[4][5] He has large green eyes and a long tail that is hollow at the tip. Inside, a blue orb glows when he uses his powers.[6] He has a very wide mouth full of small white teeth.[7]
Loot has an uncanny ability to locate and navigate the Omenpaths, and has a map of the Multiverse inside his seemingly infinite mind.[8][9] He knows the endpoint of every Omenpath and can see planes coming to life and also returning to darkness. This power does not seem to be the limit of his abilities. As he grows, he may prove not only able to uncover Omenpaths but to manifest them himself.[1] Jace Beleren perceives Loot's mind as a vast interior that is as solid as steel, rather than the delicate, crystalline structure he perceives in others.
Despite being hundreds or thousands of years old, Loot has the mindset of a young child.[10] Curious, bright, and gregarious, Loot is eager to learn and quick to trust.[1] He speaks in chirps and trills, but a rudimentary form of telepathy allows other beings to understand him.[6][11]
History
At some point, Loot was sealed in suspended animation inside Maag Taranau.[9]

Around 4554 AR, during the time Jace Beleren was part of the Infinite Consortium, Tezzeret sent him to the then-unsettled plane of Thunder Junction to investigate Maag Taranau, to find something Nicol Bolas was afraid of.[9] Jace detected a slumbering, childlike mind deep within the vault, but could not get in. After relaying this to Tezzeret, they never discussed the vault again.
Seven years later, months after the War of the Spark, Jace asked Tamiyo about the vault.[9] She opened a scroll and told him about the strange creature inside the vault, including his gender and presumably his capabilities.
At the top of the innermost platform within Maag Taranau was a pod-like structure encased in glass.[4] Metal stretched around the glowing sphere, marked with an ancient script and surrounded by threads of amber magic. Behind it was a mural of an enormous horned creature, towering over the platform like a guardian. When the planeswalker Oko approached the pod, he noticed a shape moving behind the glass, too obscured by a cloudy haze to make out properly.
Jace Beleren, disguised as Ashiok, revealed that he had been looking for the creature inside, Loot.[4] He pressed both hands to the glass, and the pod shattered. Loot rested on what was left of the altar. After that, Jace and his collaborator Vraska disappeared with Loot.
Bloomburrow
Vraska, Jace, and Loot traveled to Bloomburrow.[12] It's unknown if the plane's magic changed his appearance to match its native animalfolk.
Duskmourn
In a stupendous bit of bad luck — or sinister design - Loot had wandered into a moth-covered door.[3] Jace and Vraska followed him to Duskmourn where they quickly became separated.[1][13] Jace came across the planeswalker Kaito Shizuki, whom the House had also separated from his friends. Jace and Kaito journeyed through the house together for a short time before Jace caught sight of Vraska shielding Loot from a razorkin. Although Jace went after his family, the demon Valgavoth captured Loot.[14]

2nd Ghirapur Grand Prix
Loot was forcibly conscripted onto the Speed Demons team for the 2nd Ghirapur Grand Prix to use as a navigation aide.[15] The team's captain, Winter, caged Loot on top of his vehicle, the Last Ride.[5]
Before the beginning of the race, Chandra noticed Loot's mistreatment, immediately taking a dislike to his captor, Winter.[5] This feeling was strengthened while observing Loot's suffering during the second leg of the race.[16] During the third leg of the race on Muraganda, Winter lost hold over Loot when the little creature was captured by Saurid raiders.[6] While they were waiting to be sacrificed, he befriended the goblin Daretti. Shortly after, they were rescued by Chandra and Pia Nalaar, who had witnessed Loot's capture at the hands of the saurids. Daretti quickly patched together his car, and Chandra drove it away from the village. The four barely managed to escape through an Omenpath to Amonkhet located by Loot, but they emerged some distance from the ground and the car was seriously damaged in the landing.[17] However, in a matter of hours, Daretti and Pia patched it up effectively enough that it was capable of finishing the race.
When the racers returned to Avishkar via an Omenpath located by Loot, they were confronted by Jace Beleren, who demanded the return of his child.[18] He mind-controlled several racers while a dragonstorm formed, destroying much of the city. Though they attempted to fight back, Jace rendered them unconscious, taking Loot back. The two left with Vraska, traveling to Tarkir.
Tarkir
While they rested on Tarkir, Vraska noted that Loot kept trying to hide from the mind mage, and tried to dissuade Jace from keeping the creature in a stasis.[3] While in the coma, Loot was kicking around like he was trying to squirm away from Jace's control.
Meditation Realm
With the help of Loot's mind map, Jace and Vraska traveled with him through an ancient Omenpath to the Meditation Plane.[7][3] Here Jace cast his spell to recreate the Multiverse. As it failed, it revealed a void that poured toward them, unmaking reality — Jace included.[3] The distressed Loot was picked up by Narset right before the survivors escaped. Back on Tarkir, he was returned to the grieving Vraska and they disappeared together.[19]
