General Information
Status Active: Lorwyn to present

Doug Beyer is a writer and the current Magic: The Gathering senior creative designer for Wizards of the Coast.

Career

Doug wrote Pawn of the Banshee in the Shadowmoor anthology, and A Planeswalker's Guide to Alara with Jenna Helland as well as Alara Unbroken and The Secretist trilogy, the block novels for the Alara and Return to Ravnica blocks respectively. He wrote the Savor the Flavor articles on magicthegathering.com [1][2] and sometimes participates in Design for flavor-driven sets and has served as a creative liaison on numerous design and development teams including Innistrad, Return to Ravnica, and Theros.[3] Doug began working at WotC in the summer of 2000 and started as a web developer in the Online Media department (a.k.a. the web team). As such, he developed the Orb of Insight.[4] In 2006, he moved from being a web developer and part-time flavor text writer to being part of the Magic creative team as a replacement for Matt Cavotta.[5][6]

After Brady Dommermuth's departure, Doug has stepped up to become the public face of creative in very prominent ways, including starting a flavor-based tumblr, which unfortunately isn't updated anymore.
