Gan Shokta is a Gruul warrior on the plane of Ravnica, and father of Araithia Shokta.

Description

Gan Shokta is depicted as a formidable and strong Gruul warrior, capable of shattering Eternal skulls with sheer physical force. He is rugged and muscular, befitting a Gruul warrior. His features are stern, often set in a scowl or intense expression, which complements his fiery temper and warrior ethos. His attire and equipment are practical and battle-ready, adorned with the weapons and tools necessary for survival and combat within the Gruul territories. His presence is commanding and imposing, befitting a seasoned fighter in the Gruul ranks. Notably, his daughter Araithia's concealment enchantment affects him, so he needs to be told where she is to be able to notice her.

Gan Shokta is fiercely loyal to his clan and values, exhibiting a strong warrior spirit characteristic of the Gruul. Gan Shokta is not fond of outsiders or changes that disrupt the established order, evident in his hostility towards those threatening his people or his way of life. His protective nature towards his family and clan is apparent, and he can be harsh and unyielding. His reluctance to listen to others, especially those outside his immediate circle, underscores his stubbornness and pride.

History

During a skirmish against the Eternals, Gan Shokta and his Gruul comrades arrived just in time to save Kaya, Teyo, and his daughter Araithia Shokta from being overwhelmed. Amid the battle, Gan Shokta was almost killed by an Eternal but was saved by the combined efforts of Teyo, Kaya, and Araithia. Despite his initial reluctance, Gan Shokta grunted his thanks and continued to fight.

After this, Gan Shokta reluctantly continued to follow Domri Rade, despite his clear dissatisfaction with Domri's leadership. The turning point came when Domri openly declared his intention to ally with the dragon Nicol Bolas, seeking to bring down the guilds. This was a step too far for Gan Shokta, who saw such an alliance as a betrayal of Gruul values. Gan Shokta publicly denounced Domri, calling him a follower rather than a leader, and declared his intention to return to Borborygmos. He then left Domri and the group, maintaining his integrity and commitment to his principles.

When he encountered Borborygmos, Gan Shokta engaged in a conflict with him over the direction of the guild. Their intense confrontation was interrupted when Rat arrived with her mother, Ari Shokta, bringing urgent news. Initially, Gan Shokta was skeptical and dismissive of the outsiders, including Kaya and Teyo, but his demeanor shifted upon realizing his daughter was present. This acknowledgment created a momentary truce as Gan Shokta and the others prepared for a crucial ritual to resurrect Niv-Mizzet to help combat Nicol Bolas.

During the ceremony, Gan Shokta stood aside while the guild representatives participated in a complex ritual that involved intricate mana lines and powerful magical forces. The ritual successfully revived Niv-Mizzet in a new, golden form, just in time to fend off an attack from God-Eternal Kefnet. The newly resurrected dragon defeats the monstrous entity, showcasing the power and significance of the ritual.

Following this victory, Gan Shokta and the others, invigorated by the presence of the Firemind, rushed toward the Citadel to continue their battle against Nicol Bolas's forces. Gan Shokta's character throughout these events is marked by his unwavering dedication to his clan and his readiness to fight for their survival and honor.

Gan and his family survived the War of the Spark and were part of the new Gruul Clan, freed from Domri's leadership.
