Bougrat is a druid of the Cult of Yore on Ravnica, a worshipper of the Nephilim.
Description
Bougrat, like other members of the Cult of Yore, is deeply nostalgic and reverent towards the ancient past of Ravnica.[1] He exudes a sense of humility and reverence for the natural world, lamenting the loss of wonder and awe that once permeated society. Bougrat is introspective, philosophical, and critical of the modern world's progress and its effect on the soul and spirit of the people. He values the diversity, unpredictability, and complexity of the natural world, which he feels have been eroded by the rigid structures and definitions imposed by the Guildpact.
Bougrat tells stories to plants, sharing tales of their past dominance and the destruction wrought by mortals, aiming to instill a sense of revenge and awakening in them.[2] As part of the Cult of Yore, Bougrat helps preserve the memory of Ravnica before the Guildpact, consulting with ancient entities and performing rites to maintain the primordial light of those times.
History
Leading up to the Decamillennial, Bougrat sought to reintroduce the feeling of humility and wonder that he believed was missing in the modern, bureaucratic, and servile world. He saw the current state of Ravnica as devoid of the awe once inspired by its natural diversity and grandeur. Bougrat and his fellow cult members observed and documented the stirrings in the natural world as signs of change. They believed the signs heralded the awakening of the Nephilim, ancient beings that represented the vastness and complexity of the world.
As the Cult of Yore grew in numbers, it attracted members from various backgrounds, including the Gruul. Bougrat saw its growth as a positive sign and felt hopeful for the future, believing the old gods were reawakening and that the natural world's power was being restored. Bougrat embodied a profound connection to the ancient and natural aspects of Ravnica, striving to rekindle the humility and wonder that had been lost in the modern age.
