Skarrg, also called The Rage Pits or simply the Reunion Turf, is a ruined gathering place located deep in the Rubblebelt of Ravnica. Once the gutted remains of an enormous palace in the Red Wastes, Skarrg now serves as the closest thing the Gruul Clans have to a guildhall — a wild arena where the clans come together under a sky darkened by perpetual smoke and flame.

Description

Skarrg is visible on the map of Precinct Four, just outside its walls.

Skarrg lies within a devastated section of the Red Wastes known as the Rubblebelt, an abandoned wasteland filled with shattered buildings, debris-clogged streets, and the remnants of old Ravnican civilization. This area is a harsh landscape where the Gruul Clans thrive among ferocious beasts, elementals, and other roaming monsters that share their territory. The few stubborn citizens who still inhabit the surrounding ruins are tough enough, or desperate enough, to live beside the Gruul’s wild gatherings.[1]

At the heart of Skarrg burns a great bonfire that never goes out, fueled by the rubble around it and the constant revelry of the Gruul warriors who periodically converge here from every corner of the city. They come to boast of their raids, roast massive boars over the flames, share stories of conquest, and settle old scores in brutal contests of strength and skill.[2][3][1]

Despite its reputation as a place of communal gathering, Skarrg is far from neutral ground — rivalries and old grudges often erupt into savage clashes in the shadow of the bonfire. Outsiders who wander too close rarely leave unharmed, as the Gruul guard their territory fiercely and are quick to challenge any who dare intrude on their sacred rage pits. Various beasts, phoenixes, and other wild creatures linger among the ruins as guardians and companions to the clans who call Skarrg home.[1]

Skarrg sits just beyond the walls of Precinct Four of Ravnica City's Tenth District, putting it outside the official city bounds but still dangerously close to the heart of Ravnica. Its proximity means that the Gruul’s violent gatherings and raids can spill over into the city streets, threatening citizens and disrupting life inside the more settled districts whenever the clans grow restless or hungry for conflict. For the Gruul, this closeness is intentional — a constant reminder to the city’s lawful folk that civilization’s walls are never as secure as they believe.[1]

History

During the War of the Spark, Skarrg became the site where the Gruul Clans regrouped after the death of their new guildleader Domri Rade at the hands of the invading Dreadhorde. Skarrg then became the location of a showdown between Borborygmos, who wanted the Gruul to act independently of the other guilds, and Gan Shokta, who wanted the Gruul to cooperate with the other guilds against the invaders. The two broke into a fight, but before the outcome could be decided, Gan's daughter Araithia Shokta intervened and convinced Borborygmos to let go of his grudges against the other guilds, and allowing the Gruul to band together with the rest of the plane's defenders.[4]
