Momir Vig was the elven guild leader of the Simic Combine on Ravnica.
Description
Momir Vig had a bald, pale face. He had once been an elf — some of the few remaining original parts left on the progenitor’s head were distinctively pointed ears that gave him a demonic look in Novijen's misty light. Vig’s race of elves had long since died out, their name long forgotten, killed in tribal wars with the pre-Guildpact armies of the ancient Silhana and Devkarin. The two surviving elf races agreed on very little, but they both decided that Vig’s kind had been a fierce and ruthless strain of the species, and their passing was mourned by no one, not even the progenitor himself.[1]
History
Momir Vig became the guildmaster of the Simic Combine in Cizarm of 9211 ZC.[1] The Combine was originally founded to preserve the health and stability of all life on Ravnica—a mission Vig claimed to uphold. However, he found this purpose too mundane and sought to elevate it. Rather than simply maintaining Ravnican life, Vig aimed to enhance it through biological experimentation.
To achieve this, he developed cytoplasts—blue-green, semi-organic globules capable of storing and transferring beneficial genetic traits. These enhancements could, for example, increase intelligence in the dim-witted or grant strength to the physically weak.[2]
Despite the potential benefits, most Ravnicans were unwilling to undergo the invasive procedures required for cytoplast implantation, aside from Simic members and individuals in need of prosthetics. In response, Vig engineered a new variant of cytoplast that could bond with a host through simple contact, bypassing the need for consent entirely. This allowed him to "improve" Ravnicans on his terms.
Vig eventually allied with Svogthir, who had taken possession of Savra's body, and together they initiated Project Kraj — a plan to cleanse Ravnica and remake it from the ground up.[1] After Project Kraj was activated during the Dissension using a serum derived from the cerebral fluid of one of the dragons hatched by Zomaj Hauc, Momir Vig was killed by Agrus Kos. At the time, Kos too was inhabiting Savra's body, and slew Vig by stabbing him in the eye. Project Kraj went on to battle the demon Rakdos, resulting in both entities being defeated.[1]
