The Scarab God is one of the three gods who were captured and distorted by Nicol Bolas to serve his interests during the Hour of Revelation. The original functions and appearances and even the names of these gods have been lost.

History

Hashaton served the Scarab God before the god was warped by Nicol Bolas.[1]

The function of the Scarab God was to lead the Eternals during the Hour of Eternity and convert Amonkhet's creatures into Eternal soldiers.[2]

When Hazoret rebuilt the Hekma, the Scarab God was confined outside Naktamun.[3]

Amonkhet was a target in the New Phyrexian Invasion.[4] Warned of the incoming invasion, the survivors of Amonkhet went into hiding, hoping to evade Phyrexian notice, but it turned out to be futile.[5] To their surprise, when they arrived at Naktamun, they found the Scarab God and Locust God already there, engaged with the invaders. With the insect gods' undead hordes distracting the Phyrexians, Hazoret used her flaming spear to ignite the glistening oil within the Phyrexians' veins. As they writhed in agony, Djeru led a crop of elite fighters to dismember them, making sure they were out of the picture for good. In the aftermath, the inscrutable insect gods departed for the deep desert without a word.

After the war

Originally appearing to be nothing but thralls of Bolas, both the Scarab and Locust God demonstrated unusual agency after the God-Pharaoh's death.[6] They saw themselves as the true gods of the plane, with the current pantheon such as Hazoret and Ketramose being tainted by Bolas's legacy. Still, they see no need to act with hostility; the Chitin Court, as they are termed, collects more undead followers and seeks to revive their otherwise buried compatriots.[6]

Inspiration

The Scarab God is inspired by Khepri, the Egyptian god who represents the rising or morning sun. By extension, he can also represent creation and the renewal of life.
