Barrin Grevik is a human merchant on the plane of Ravnica. His store's Tin Street location marking a waypoint of the Implicit Maze caused him to have a run-in with Jace Beleren.

History

After seeing Jace Beleren staring at the cornerstone of his shop, Barrin irritatedly asked the planeswalker if he could help him. Jace confirmed this, and used mind magic on the merchant to make him tell Jace everything he knew about the cornerstone - including the theory of his grand-uncle Estovar that it was put there by the Azorius after the signing of the original [Guildpact]]. When Jace thanked Barrin and left, the merchant was left gaping at what had happened until his wife Nila shook him out of his reverie.

Afterward, Barrin's theory was that Jace must be a Dimir agent and that he would follow him into his dark hideout and confront him about his dark deeds. His wife tried to dissuade him, but he was stubborn as a dromad purebred, just like his whole family. So Barrin grabbed his stun baton and followed Jace into a dark alley, chasing off a Rakdos goblin on the way. Then he heard a buzzing sound followed by a flash of blue light coming from a basement window. He crept down the stairs that led to a wooden door. He slowly opened it to reveal Jace staring at a ghostlike image of the Tenth District, spread out before him like an exquisite model. A bright beam of red energy traced a series of angular lines that led from Barrin's shop along Tin Street, up several causeways and eventually led up the tall tower of the old Azorius legislative archives.

Jace shared the details of the Implicit Maze with Barrin like they were old friends, and denied cooperating with the Dimir. When Barrin demanded to know Jace's identity, Jace told him the truth. Then, from within the shadow of the cowl, the planeswalker's eyes glowed a baleful blue, lighting his grin, as he erased all of Barrins' memories of encountering him.

Barrin woke the next day, having gone straight to bed and blacked out completely. His wife Nila assumed he had been out drinking bumbat with his friend Scrump, but Barrin remembered nothing. He swore off drinking bumbat and went on with his day.
