The Grugg brothers were five thrulls — originally the trio Elbeph, Bephel, and Phleeb, with the later additions of Lepheb and Heblep. The thrulls were servants of Teysa Karlov and accompanied her to the Utvara Reclamation Zone.[1]

Description

The Grugg Brothers are a trio of thrulls who serve as Teysa Karlov’s loyal bodyguards. Created through necromantic craft, they are fearsome and unsettling in appearance, each shaped from the remnants of different source corpses. Together, the Grugg brothers have served as Teysa’s protectors for years, their grotesque loyalty a constant, if unnerving, presence by her side.

Bephel

Among the brothers, Bephel was the most prominent, as he was the only one granted the power of speech for a time. He has a lizardlike form, shaped from the corpse of a viashino, with a long barbed tail lined with metallic needles and a nearly translucent gray skin that reveals far too much of his inner workings. His head, shaped like two stacked arrowheads, bears three rows of clacking teeth and bulbous black eyes that provide a 360-degree view. Bephel is eager, almost gleeful, in his readiness to kill at Teysa’s command, though such tasks rarely arise.[1]

Ebelph

Elbeph is something like an ape crossed with a frog, hopping along on long arms and splayed hands while his dexterous feet pick at the teeth in his wide mouth. He is silent for the most part, but can make ribbity noises. He is a good jumper and is vigilant, if somewhat impatient.[1]

Phleeb

Phleeb is the smallest of the original trio of brothers, and more purely ape-like than the others, although he does have the more frog-like aspects of Elbeph in his face and hind legs. Lepheb and Heblep were made from the meat and essence of his body, and thus look very much like him. During their stay in Utvara, Teysa granted Phleeb the gift of speech, to make him able to transmit information.[1]

History

Despite some of them being killed several times, Teysa always revived them. Ephel was killed on the lokopede raid, while Bephel was killed by Aun Yom's hunters while bringing Crix to the Cauldron.
