Merret is a dockworker and covert agent for House Dimir, who has a special son.

Description

Appearance

Merret is a scruffy, middle-aged human with a weathered appearance, the result of years of labor as a dockworker. His skin is tanned and rough from constant exposure to the elements. He has a strong, muscular build, indicative of the physical demands of his job. Merret's hair is dark and often unkempt, with strands of gray beginning to show. His face is lined with marks of hard work and worry, particularly around his eyes, which have a haunted look, reflecting the burdens he carries. His hands are calloused and scarred, evidence of his trade and the many tasks he undertakes to support his family. He has a scar as if from a claw running across his forehead and cheek across the eye socket, although the eye itself remains undamaged.

Personality

Merret is a devoted family man, deeply committed to his wife, Tashi, and their children. He is hardworking and determined, willing to do whatever it takes to provide for his family. This dedication drives him to work not only at the docks but also as a covert agent for House Dimir, a secretive and dangerous endeavor. Despite his tough exterior, Merret is compassionate and caring, particularly towards his family. He is resourceful and quick-thinking, able to navigate the complexities of both his legitimate work and his secret activities. However, the weight of his double life and the pressure to keep his family safe take a toll on him, making him wary and anxious at times.

History

Merret worked the docks, opening crates and allowing a Dimir spy bug to inspect them for contraband. One day, he found a crate containing an expensive bottle of Buttress South Whiskey and was tempted to steal it, but footsteps interrupted him before he could act. His boss, Grimbly Wothis, ordered him to clear the fog from the harbor, threatening to dock his pay if he didn't comply. Struggling with his magic, Merret managed to clear the fog just enough to reveal a Simic schooner, which quickly became invisible.

Returning home, Merret saw his wife Tashi working on minor healing salves and struggling with their dire financial situation. Desperate for money, he attempted to steal from a posh grocer but was unsuccessful. Later, he broke into his boss's home, stole a loaf of bread, and drank an Elixir of Focus, which heightened his magical abilities. Caught by Grimbly Wothis's wife, Merret used his enhanced magic to become invisible and escape.

At work, Merret's newfound power caused chaos when he accidentally dropped a crate near his boss and the investor. Realizing he was in deep trouble, he ran home, only to find Grimbly Wothis soon pounding on his door. Grimbly stormed in, discovered the baby's newfound magical abilities, and attempted to take the child. In a struggle, the baby suddenly vanished, reappearing with a mysterious fruit.

Suddenly, Lazav revealed himself from the corner where he had been sitting all along. He was deeply interested in the magical child, but he would let his parents raise him, albeit with some safety measures. Grimbly was sent away, forgetting the entire incident, while Lazav installed a secret Dimir agent named "Aunt Bea" in Merret's home to take care of the boy. Merret and Tashi's memories were also altered to forget the altercation with Grimbly and to accept Bea as a real member of the family.
