Arrus is a viashino, characterized by his pallid yellow-green skin, the color of maaka bile, and his smooth body devoid of spikes — a rare trait among his kind. His appearance reflects his outsider status within his clan, and his physique marks him as the runt of his litter, physically weaker and more delicate than his robust siblings. Arrus compensates for his lack of battle prowess with his skill as a tattoo artist, using a unique and painful technique to imbue his tattoos with powerful magic.

Arrus is meticulous, dedicated, and inventive, channeling his frustration and longing for acceptance into his craft. His deep respect for tradition and admiration for legendary figures like Dryzek contrasts sharply with his feelings of inadequacy and longing for true Rage, which he fakes to fit in. Despite his outward loyalty, Arrus is a keen observer of the clan's dynamics and harbors an internal conflict about his place within the Ghor Clan and its leadership.

History

Arrus, tasked with gathering ingredients for his special ink, hunts a maaka and creates the magical mixture required for his tattoos. He returns to the war-torn camp where he witnesses the aftermath of a battle led by the legendary giant berserker Dryzek, who has recently returned to the Ghor Clan. Arrus tattoos his brother Jiri and other warriors, feeling a mix of pride and envy for their Rage-driven exploits.

Dryzek’s presence stirs tension within the clan, particularly concerning a potential leadership challenge against the current chieftains, Ruric and Thar. During a celebration, Dryzek surprises everyone by pledging loyalty to Ruric and Thar, temporarily easing the tension. However, the tattoos Arrus applied earlier cause the warriors' skin to catch fire, a catastrophe that leads to Arrus being cast out from the clan.

Exiled and struggling to survive in the deteriorating Rubblebelt, Arrus discovers that the land itself is sickening, affecting the creatures and resources he relies on. Desperate, he returns to warn his clan but is dismissed by his brother. In the camp, Arrus encounters a powerful ogre shaman named Baas, who uses superior ink. He attempts to steal it but is swiftly defeated by her. As he lies wounded, the spilled ink miraculously revitalizes the barren ground, healing Arrus with unexpected Selesnyan magic. Determined to uncover the secrets of this potent ink, Arrus resolves to follow the ogre shaman.

In a wild and tumultuous journey through the Rubblebelt, Arrus unexpectedly joins forces with Baas as he recognizes her as a notorious dam destroyer. Together, they venture deep into a cave infested with hydras, where Baas employs a cunning distraction to pilfer hydra eggs. Their escape is fraught with danger, encountering battleboars and overcoming them with Baas's guidance.

As they gather ingredients for magical ink, Arrus learns of Baas's past and her relentless battle against societal structures, including her conflict with Daeska Solvar, her cyclops ex-husband. Their quest deepens when they stalk a maaka, capturing its scat for their ink. However, Arrus discovers a greater threat — Selesnya Conclave's insidious scheme to drain the Rubblebelt's magic for their purposes, sparking Arrus's resolve to challenge Gruul Clan's leadership.

In a daring challenge, Arrus confronts the current chieftains, Ruric and Thar, rallying support against Selesnya's encroachment and the deteriorating Rubblebelt. With fiery determination and Baas's support, Arrus ignites a rebellion within the clan, prompting Ruric and Thar to pledge a fierce resistance against Selesnya's manipulation.
