Ilona is an Orzhov potentate and kingpin, leader of one of the Syndicate's cartels. She has a winged pet thrull named Lord Kazmyr, and has hired the executioner Bilagru to claim the lives of debtors who cannot pay their debts in servitude.

History

When the playwright Symond Halm asked to produce a dramatic theatre play with Ilona's money, she had him sign a contract that put his life on the line should he fail. Ilona did this because she was uninterested in having years of servitude from the man, and knew she would be able to claim his debt through her executioner Bilagru.

Ilona and her pet thrull Lord Kazmyr were present in the seating when Symond Halm's play was launched. The gold he had borrowed had been spent on lavish costumes and set designs, but only a quarter of the seats were filled. Ilona had been aware that his play may be a failure from the very start, and what she saw left her thoroughly unimpressed. Symond thought of escaping his debts by running from the theatre, but Ilona sent Lord Kazmyr and Bilagru to follow him.

In desperation, Symond killed a vedalken man to be put into prison, supposedly hidden away from Ilona's dark servants. But Ilona would not be deterred. She would claim her debt and Symond Halm's life, even if it meant breaking into an Azorius prison to do so.
