Endure is a keyword action introduced in Tarkir: Dragonstorm, where it is tied to the Abzan Houses clan.[1]

Description

Whenever a creature endures N, its controller chooses between putting N +1/+1 counters it, or creating an N/N white Spirit creature token. If the creature is no longer on the battlefield when it endures, the player will have to create the Spirit token.[1] This is similar to Fabricate, except the former creates N tokens, whereas endure creates a single, larger token.

Endure, unlike fabricate, is not intrinsically tied to enters the battlefield triggers and can occur in other contexts, similar to explore.

Rules

From the glossary of the Comprehensive Rules (April 4, 2025—Tarkir: Dragonstorm)

Endure
A keyword ability that lets you choose put +1/+1 counters on a creature or create a Spirit creature token. See rule 702.62, “Endure.”

From the Comprehensive Rules (April 4, 2025—Tarkir: Dragonstorm)

  • 701.62. Endure
    • 701.62a Certain abilities instruct a permanent to endure N. To do so, that permanent’s controller creates an N/N white Spirit creature token unless they put N +1/+1 counters on that permanent.
    • 701.62b If a permanent is instructed to endure 0, nothing happens. No counters are put on that permanent and no tokens are created.

Rulings

  • You choose whether to put +1/+1 counters on the creature or create a Spirit token as the ability that includes the endure instruction is resolving. No player may take actions between the time you choose and the time that counters are added or tokens are created.[2]
  • If you can't put +1/+1 counters on the creature for any reason as an endure ability resolves (for example, if the creature is no longer on the battlefield), you'll just create a Spirit token.
  • If a noncreature permanent is instructed to endure, the effect is the same. You can put +1/+1 counters on that permanent or create a Spirit token.

Example

Example

Dusyut Earthcarver {5}{G}
Creature — Elephant Druid
Reach
When this creature enters, it endures 3. (Put three +1/+1 counters on it or create a 3/3 white Spirit creature token.)
