The Husk is an area of Utvara, found on the plane of Ravnica, far from the Ten Districts of Ravnica City.[1]

Description

The Husk is a crumbling ring of ruins that encircles much of the southern perimeter of the Utvara valley. Once part of a long-forgotten district or outer precinct of ancient Ravnica, the area has since collapsed into a chaotic landscape of deadfalls, sinkholes, shattered buildings, and overgrown rubble. Jagged bridges dangle over empty chasms, and time-worn towers lean precariously, making travel through the Husk physically treacherous.

Various branches of the Gruul Clans lay claim to parts of the Husk, using the ruins as camps, wargrounds, or places of ritual, though even they tread carefully. The Husk is also home to the nephilim, five ancient, monstrous entities of pre-Guildpact origin. These hulking, god-like beings are hostile to all life and are feared not only for their immense strength and size but for their seeming immortality—while they can be slain through physical means, their return is inevitable. They dwell within the terrain itself, emerging without warning to hunt and destroy.[1]

History

The origins of the Husk stretch back to before the Guildpact era, when it was likely a functioning and populated district of Ravnica. Whatever its original purpose, it was eventually consumed by geological and magical instability—possibly related to deep tectonic shifts caused by geothermal activity beneath Utvara, or the layered collapse of unrecorded architecture stacked deep below the surface.

In the centuries following the kuga plague and the Izzet League's experimental detonations in the region, the Husk became increasingly unstable. The resulting structural degradation, along with the appearance or reawakening of the nephilim, drove away any would-be settlers and solidified the Husk’s reputation as a cursed and dangerous place. Today, it remains one of the last untamed sections of Utvara, where ancient ruins, wild magic, and monstrous threats converge.[1]

In the aftermath of the battle with Zomaj Hauc and the destruction of the Cauldron, the Husk was granted to the clans as their sovereign territory, from that day and on into perpetuity. It was now Gruul turf.
