Tomik Vrona is a law and security mage from Ravnica. He is chief advokist of the Orzhov Syndicate, and the former apprentice of Teysa Karlov. He served as acting guildmaster after the War of the Spark, but has since become second to Teysa.[1]
Description
Tomik is a handsome young man with brown hair. He wears glasses. Tomik specializes in contracts, verbal agreements, and barriers protecting physical treasures.[2][3]
Tomik is known to fly a gargoyle. He is Ral Zarek's husband, and they had been living together but trying to keep their relationship private because they're from different guilds.[4][5] However, it became public knowledge when they worked together to organize the guild summit.[6]
History
Youth
Tomik's parents were infamous advokists and oligarchs within the guild. When they died in an accident, they were quickly turned into spirits and continued to raise their son. Tomik grew up with a respect for the law that is unusual among the Orzhov, along with an appreciation for clever loopholes that are very much in character for the guild. His apprenticeship under Teysa Karlov had helped him build a career out of his talents, and during her imprisonment, he had become her lifeline to the outside world. He operated as her right hand, running messages to her old contacts and fostering secret alliances.[7]
Torn between two mistresses
Before the War of the Spark, Tomik helped Kaya and Teysa in their plans to get rid of the Obzedat by offering the assistance of Ral Zarek in return for Orzhov's attendance at the guild summit.[8] Ral, in turn, recruited the Golgari Swarm to stage an attack.[9] When the hierarchs pressured Teysa to get rid of guildmaster Kaya, Tomik felt that Teysa made a mistake in complying. He and Ral helped Kaya escape, and he provided her with the information to bind the hierarchs to her will.[10]
Tomik was the one who brought Hekara's corpse to Rix Maadi, where she was revived as a bloodwitch.[11]
Forsaken
Tomik discovered a legal loophole that allowed Kaya to temporarily transfer her Orzhov contracts and guild responsibilities to him.[12] With Tomik now the acting guildmaster, Kaya was free to planeswalk away for short periods. He proved to be a very efficient manager and seemingly was able to resist attempts to be controlled by Teysa and the Triumvirate. At some point after this, Ral and Tomik were married during the springtime on Ravnica.[13][14]
Murders at Karlov Manor
While Kaya was fighting in defense of the Multiverse during the Phyrexian Invasion, Teysa usurped the guild's leadership.[15] Tomik continues to oversee the guild's day-to-day functions.[1] He unashamedly uses his position to fund Ral Zarek's reconstruction projects in the hopes of helping the Izzet recover from the disgrace of their guild during the Phyrexian invasion.

Trivia
- The art for Ral, Izzet Viceroy shows him holding a piece of white fabric, and he's wearing it on his wrist in the Mythic Edition and in Precision Bolt. This is probably a piece of Tomik's robe. In turn, Tomik, Distinguished Advokist is wearing a piece of Ral's red robe on his wrist.
- Tomik's card in Ravnica Remastered incorrectly has the Azorius watermark.[17]
