Vannifar is the current guildmaster of the Simic Combine on Ravnica. She is an elf who has mutated her body into an ooze that gives her a jellyfish look. She can absorb oxygen through her skin and can rest parts of her brain at different times so she doesn't need to sleep.
Until recently Vannifar was kind of an outsider to the guild, wanting more direct and faster action with her Adaptionist movement than the the more passive Zegana (and her Utopian movement).[1] After the Living Guildpact went missing, causing growing tension between the Ravnican guilds, Vannifar's more action based philosophy gained popularity. Then Zegana needed her help against the Golgari, who where trying to take a zonot for themselves. After this Vannifar challenged Zegana in the Speaker's Chamber and she was voted in as Prime Speaker.
Under Vannifar the Simic started to mutate their more intelligent members into super soldiers.[2]
