The Yumegawa River is the longest river on the plane of Kamigawa, and serves as a vital source of blue mana for the region. Its waters are deeply intertwined with the magic and culture of the plane’s inhabitants.
Description
The Yumegawa’s headwaters lie far beyond the borders of the most traveled lands. From there, the river flows steadily through Kamigawa’s varied landscapes, nourishing forests, plains, and swamps before reaching the sea. Its long course feeds into the majestic Kamitaki Falls and fills the Kamitaki Lake, whose cascades are famed for their beauty and their mystical properties and rich source of blue mana.
The river plays an important role in the life of nearby settlements and powerful sites of learning. The prestigious Minamo Academy, Kamigawa’s foremost school of magic for human wizards and scholars, is built on cliffs overlooking both the river and the thunderous falls. The constant flow of the Yumegawa provides an endless source of inspiration and magical energy for Minamo’s students and teachers.
Above Kamitaki Lake, Otawara, the soaring city of cloud and sky, floats among the drifting mists. From there, sky-mages and spirits watch over the waters below, reinforcing the river’s place as both a natural and spiritual landmark on Kamigawa.
The Yumegawa River’s abundant blue mana makes it vital not only to spellcasters but also to the spirits of Kamigawa, who are drawn to its flow and often dwell near its banks. It is said that along the river’s quieter stretches, travelers may glimpse river kami playing in the currents.
