Fudaiju was a great tree in Jukai forest duriong the Kami War on the plane of Kamigawa.

Description

Fudaiju was a giant tree in Jukai. The budoka monk Kazuki believed it was taller than both Boseiju and the Center Tree, although in truth he had never been to either of them and in fact, Boseiju was taller. The Wall, formed of immense trees bent sideways and twined around one another, surrounded the tree. The knots circling Fudaiju's trunk formed the Spiral Path, which enabled the monks to ascend Fudaiju to the Sacred Bell tucked in one of Fudaiju's boles.[1]

History

During the Kami War, Fudaiju came under heavy attack by the kami. The great tree was defended by Jugan, who joined the side of the mortals against his fellow kami, but the hordes of spirits were not deterred. This started one of the Great Battles of Kamigawa, the Battle of Silk, which lasted six years.[1]

After six years, Ayumi finally responded to the sound of the ringing bell. Ayumi was a kami who “reclaimed” abandoned places in the name of nature, and a faithful scribe of the ages and force of ever-living duty and calm. When she appeared, the monks of Fudaiju thought she would side with them and end the attacks of the kami. Instead, she slaughtered every last monk, leaving Fudaiju depopulated.[2]
