Sharp-Ear was a kitsune ranger from the Sugi Hayashi village on Kamigawa, and a brother to Pearl-Ear.[1]

Description

He and his sister had six brothers and nine sisters.[2] Having been left in service of tutoring Michiko in Eiganjo when his sister wanted to visit her home village, his underestimation of Choryu's abilities started a chain of events eventually leading to the end of the Kami War.

Sharp-Ear was rather short, very nimble, and both sharp-witted and sharp-tongued. Aside from being a skilled tracker and ranger, he was an expert yabusame mounted archer and archery instructor. He was almost 100 years old by the end of the Kami War. He was trained in the use of magic from both forest and plains.[3]

History

Sharp-Ear came to Eiganjo Castle during the Kami War and was placed as a mentor for Michiko Konda, teaching her the ways of the yabusame - mounted archery. When Michiko left Eiganjo with Riko and Choryu, Sharp-Ear used his kitsune magic to separate them and lure them to Sugi Hayashi, where his sister Pearl-Ear was located at the time. Sharp-Ear then joined Captain Nagao's failed assault on the massing akki army, where he broke his arm dragging the captain to safety. Returning to Sugi Hayashi, Sharp-Ear then went with the others deeper into orochi territory, where he and the others were captured and imprisoned. After freeing themselves, Sharp-Ear then traveled with the company to Toshiro Umezawa's cave, where they once more fought the orochi.[2]
