The Takenuma Swamp (tah-kay-NOO-mah;[1] Japanese: (たけ) (ぬま) ; rōmaji: Takenuma; literally: "Bamboo Mire") was a major source of black mana location on the plane of Kamigawa.

Description

A fetid swamp of rotten bamboo, poisoned water, and foul air, Takenuma was home to nezumi-bito, humans, o-bakemono, and many other less-than-pleasant things. A poet once called the swamp "The Stealer of Dawn".[2] Here bandits and Nezumi (rat-folk) live. There are also a multitude of Oni (demon spirits) who live in the darkest regions, leaving the place corrupted and void of sunlight. Here, the most brutal battles are fought against the kami. Kokusho, the Evening Star, watched over the vile swamps. Her reincarnation, Junji, abandoned the swamp, and now presides over Towashi's Undercity.[3]

The guardian spirit dragon of Takenuma is Kokusho, the Evening Star.

  • Shizo Black mana — an ancient battlefield with many corpses mummified in the mud.[9]
  • Takenosu Black mana — a village
