Simun the Quiet was a gifted but deeply troubled wizard originating from an unknown plane. His genius was shadowed by bouts of madness.[1]

History

After being cast out from the Order of the Elements due to his so-called "unnatural ideas," Simun withdrew from the world, retreating to a hidden laboratory carved within the walls of an ancient fortress. There, he dedicated himself to refining these controversial magical theories for over fifty years, his paranoia steadily deepening with time.

Fearing that his former comrades would eventually locate him, seize his arcane knowledge, and execute him, Simun crafted a secure vessel to safeguard his secrets. This artifact, which he named the Strongbox, was accompanied by a carefully designed key—both were marvels of magical and mechanical craftsmanship, intricate puzzles in their own right and flawless in their construction. Confident in their security, he concealed the key in a place beyond all hope of discovery.

When one day he heard faint tapping against the wall of his chamber, Simun hastily transferred all of his accumulated secrets and memories into the Strongbox, sealed its lid, and locked it tightly. Feeling victorious over the threat he imagined—his would-be executioners—he gazed at the orb-shaped container resting on his table. Puzzled, he mused silently, "What a strange-looking box. Where could it have come from? I wonder what it contains, and how someone might unlock it."
