Description

Ketramose is a young god born from the fierce determination of the living Amonkheti to survive and the undead Amonkheti to protect the living.[1] Like his people, he dreams of the opportunities offered by other planes.[2] He is the god of the breaking dawn and the future that awaits tomorrow, the living and the honored dead, hope, solidarity, endurance, and the peasantry.[3] He carries a bow like Oketra's, and takes the form of a muscled young warrior with golden skin and a golden lion's head.[4] His voice is deep and rough like a lion-made human.

History

Birth

Ketramose's birth followed the arrival of Sab-Sunen, born from the reeds that grew at the banks of the restored Luxa in Naktamun, he rose from the sparkling water after the end of the Phyrexian invasion.[1] His birth came from the fierce determination of the living Amonkheti to survive and from the undead Amonkheti's desire to protect the living. He considers Oketra to be his mother.[4] Orders of worship to Ketramose have coalesced among the survivors of Amonkhet, who raise new temples in his honor.

2nd Ghirapur Grand Prix

In the lead-up to the second Ghirapur Grand Prix, Ketramose intervened in a confrontation between Basri Ket and Munhatep at the tomb of Temmet, the former vizier of Oketra.[4] Both parties were in a standoff over claiming Temmet's body, with Basri having a khopesh held against his throat by Niharet. Answering Basri's prayers, Ketramose tore off the pyramid roof and peered inside while Munhatep's allies shot arrows at the god. When those had no effect, Munhatep attempted to retreat into a tunnel with Temmet's body but was tossed aside by Ketramose. The god revived Temmet, declaring that he would serve Ketramose as he had Oketra.

Ketramose appeared before Chandra Nalaar after she and her group of stragglers from the Grand Prix were stranded at an oasis from escaping part of the Muraganda track.[2] The god sensed something was troubling her and offered to listen to her woes. Upon seeing Ketramose, Chandra voiced her confusion at his appearance, as she thought Nicol Bolas had killed all the gods of Amonkhet, save for Hazoret. Ketramose explained that despite Bolas's efforts to strangle the spirit from Amonkhet, the gods themselves embodied the spirit of the plane and would endure so long as life on it did. When Chandra questioned why a god would appear to her above all people, Ketramose told her that he believed that their meeting was no less important to a god. Ketramose voiced an interest in hearing from Chandra about other planes beyond Amonkhet and their customs and beliefs. Chandra described the plane of Zendikar, the home of her lover Nissa Revane, to the Amonkheti god. In return, he pointer her the way back to the track.

Inspiration

Ketramose's name is likely a combination of Oketra's and the Egyptian ms, ("child"), giving the meaning "Child of Oketra." His creation on the banks of the Luxa may be inspired by the "Finding of Moses," whose name is believed to share the same root as Ketramose's, and who was discovered on the banks of the Nile. He may also be inspired by Maahes, the lion-headed Egyptian god of war, or his mother Sekhmet, a lion-headed solar deity. Functionally, he may be similar to Khepri, who represents the dawn, creation, and renewal of life. He may also be inspired by Horus, who is associated with Khepri and is sometimes depicted as lion-headed in literature such as the Book of the Faiyum.
