Set details
“ | Face Your Fears. All of Them. | ” |
Duskmourn: House of Horror is top-down designed Modern Horror set based on the Haunted House trope. It has a completely different tone than the set that precedes it, Bloomburrow. It is inspired by 70s and 80s creepy horror as depicted in Slasher films or The Amityville Horror.
Duskmourn: House of Horror contains 276 regular cards (91 commons, 100 uncommons, 60 rares, 20 mythic rares, 5 basic lands), and includes randomly inserted traditional foil versions of all cards. The regular cards include 5 full-art "Manor" basic lands (#272-276). Alternate card frames have a different number than the original version. The Bundle Basics lands are #277-286. Cards with the Showcase "paranormal" frame are #TBA-TBA. Showcasing the characters of the plane and the evils they face, the Showcase "Double Exposure" cards are #TBA-TBA. The "Mirror monster" Borderless cards (where the monster is seen in a reflection) are #TBA-TBA and other Borderless cards are #TBA-TBA. Extended art cards are #TBA-TBA, "Japan Showcase" cards are #TBA-TBA and the promos are #TBA-TBA. Textured foil versions of the "Double Exposure" cards are #TBA-TBA. There is also a series of alternate art cards in regular frame with, adding a monster to the original art (#TBA-TBA).
Storyline
Duskmourn is set in the world of Duskmourn, which consists of one giant haunted mansion filled with horrors and ruled by the demonic Valgavoth. The entire set takes place within its eerie walls.[5] Nashi, the son of the Planeswalker Tamiyo, has vanished through a mysterious door. There's only one clue to his whereabouts: a glitchy, warped recording of a new world full of terrors. You'll join the ensemble cast of Niko Aris, Tyvar Kell, Zimone Wola, Kaito Shizuki, and the Wanderer as they fight for their lives on a plane unlike any other.
Duskmourn: House of Horror is the second set in the Dragonstorm Arc.
Marketing
Duskmourn is available in Play Boosters, Collector Boosters, four Commander decks and the Duskmourn Bundle. A special "Nightmare Edition" of the Bundle releases on October 18th, 2024. It consists of two Collector Boosters and six Play Boosters, and the lands are foil full-art Manor Lands. It also includes a Movie Poster card and three double-sided movie posters. The spindown life counter is glow-in-the-dark.
The set also see the return of Welcome decks, last seen with Core Set 2019.[6]
Special Guests
Duskmourn features 10 Special Guests (SPG #TBA-TBA). These are incorporated in The List of the Play Boosters and may be played in Limited games. You'll find a non-foil Special Guests card in 1 out of 64 Play Boosters. Traditional foil Special Guests cards can be found in Collector Boosters.

Themes and mechanics
Duskmourn: House of Horror is an "enchantment matters" set.[8] As such, it introduces the Impending keyword, which is found only on enchantment creatures. It works similarly to suspend and always has a numerical value. When a card is cast for its impending cost, it's put onto the battlefield as normal, but with time counters equal to its impending value. Until all the counters are removed, it's not a creature.
The set also features another, yet unnamed, new mechanic.
The set sees the return of the Delirium mechanic. First appearing in the Shadows over Innistrad block, Delirium cares about having four or more card types in your graveyard. As such, the set contains a wide array of card types to synergize with the ability.
Card types
Duskmourn introduces the Glimmer and Toy types. It also features the debut of Room cards.
Counters
This set introduced rev counters for Chainsaw, and nest counters for Twitching Doll.
