Rebirth of Karona Karona's War Corruption of Memnarch

Karona's War was an event on Otaria, on the plane of Dominaria during the Rift Era.[1]

Description

Karona’s War was the final and most devastating conflict of the Otarian crisis, following the Battle for the Mirari and the ensuing Nightmare War. It marked the collapse of several of Otaria’s most prominent powers, the death of its last living gods, and the ascension of the Planeswalker Jeska.

From her reemergence into the plane at Eroshia — a city already scarred by her previous actions — Karona raised an army of the city's devout and fearful, annihilating any who refused her call. Eroshia thus became her capital during her war. Her campaign to unify Otaria was swift and brutal: cities fell in days, often to a single gesture of her hand. Aphetto was razed, leaving only a black crater behind, with only 500 spared out of 10,000; and the Grand Coliseum and Topos were reduced to ash and memories.

The ancient NumenaKuberr, Lowallyn, and Averru — long thought dead- united their forces in a last effort to stem Karona’s conquest. However, these primordial spellcasters, who had once sculpted civilizations, were outmatched by Karona’s raw, divine power. Kuberr suffocated, imprisoned in stone. Lowallyn died, trampled beneath his magma giant, twisted to Karona’s will. Averru, most powerful and wise, fought alone in the shattered city that bore his name. His final stand ended in disaster: a stray thought from Kamahl, a warrior once her ally, empowered Karona to unleash a wave of immense destruction that annihilated the city, its temple, and the god himself. The mountain fell silent. The last numen was dead.

To equip him for the confrontation with Karona, Kamahl, the former barbarian turned druid, heard the voice of the mysterious Lord Macht, explaining to him that only the Mirari-sword now stood a chance against the goddess. He faced her, wielding the sword, and was able to block her oncoming attack, but though he fought valiantly, Karona disarmed him and prepared to strike him down. At that moment, her two closest companions— Sash and Waistcoat, the unmen born of Lowallyn's magic — turned against her. Acting under Macht’s instruction, they pierced her with the Mirari-sword, ending her reign and releasing all the magic back into the world.

Macht arrived at the moment of Karona’s fall, revealing his true identity: Karn, silver golem and Planeswalker. He took Karona’s body and the Mirari to Argentum. There, Karona unraveled — her divine shell shedding until only the ascended Jeska remained. Her latent spark had ignited, and she was reborn not as a goddess but as a true Planeswalker.

Karn embedded the Mirari into a new guardian for Argentum — what would one day become Memnarch. Together, Jeska and Karn departed to walk the planes, leaving Argentum behind, while Kamahl and his sole surviving ally Stonebrow decided to wander the lands together, their days of war over.
