Eroshia is a city-state in Otaria, on the plane of Dominaria.
Description
Eroshia is a magically advanced, well-developed city-state on the far eastern coast of Otaria, 10 leagues east of the Corian Escarpment's South Pass near Sanctum. The city was led by a governor, and had mansions, libraries, an academy, a city wall with a gate, and cobblestone streets. The city even had magic-propelled cable cars, magical street lights, and a magically enforced Sea Colossus guarding the harbor.[1][2][2]
History
In 4306, the three unmen, Umbra, Sash and Waistcoat came to Eroshia to find a book of spells that could give them human bodies. After crashing a party of Governor Dereg's, where they stole his prized harpsichord as a joke, they became outlaws and were chased far across the land.[1]
After receiving human bodies from Akroma shortly before the Rebirth of Karona, Sash and Waistcoat returned to Eroshia with the sage Elionoway and his followers. They were promptly arrested, recognized by their voices, but the arrival of Karona ensured that Sash and Waistcoat were freed and given honorable positions in the city. Karona herself decided to settle in the city for a while. On her first day, Karona wandered through the city, unaware of the devastation left in her wake. Hundreds had been trampled, thousands injured. Magical wards had ignited fires, and enchanted items exploded, killing their owners. From the Plains Gate to the harbor, Eroshia lay in ruins. Karona, drunk with the discovery of her identity, had been blind to the destruction she caused. Although Eroshia was rebuilt after Karona left the city, it suffered another catastrophe when Karona left Dominaria, taking all the magic with her. The cable cars and the Sea Colossus collapsed, and the street lights all winked out.[2]
However, Karona soon returned and made Eroshia her base of power. She forcefully recruited the city's population as her army, minus 300 who refused, whom she killed. The Eroshians took part in the siege of Aphetto, which was even harsher than that case. Karona saved only 500 out of a city of 10,000. The Eroshians then marched on to the city of Averru, where most of them were killed in the fighting. When Karona was killed by the Mirari-sword, her magic returned to the land. The goddess’s power reached Eroshia quickly. It had been her first home in Dominaria, the site of the first tribal war. The city had suffered with her and languished without her. It had welcomed her back from exile and had sacrificed its citizens for the goddess’s ambition. And now she returned to them in the form of the world's innate magic, as soft as a summer drizzle. The people abandoned in that ravaged place came out of their huts and stood still under the enchanted rain. The eyes that had seen Karona’s atrocities now shone with the light of hope.[2]
Although most of the Eroshians were killed in the war, it seems likely that the city itself would be repopulated in time, given its magical innovations and general high quality of living, Karona notwithstanding.
