Spacecraft is an artifact type introduced in Edge of Eternities. It represents the various warships, freighters, cruisers, and other space-worthy vessels of the Edge.[1]

Description

Spacecraft card frame

Spacecraft is a spin on the familiar Vehicle formula. Rather than using a crew ability to temporarily become a creature, Spacecraft instead have the Station ability, which may turn them into an artifact creature permanently once a set threshold is met. This is more costly and can be paid for over multiple turns by placing charge counters on the card. Once the Spacecraft has charge counters on it equal to or greater than the number indicated in the circle on the left side of its text box, it becomes a creature with the power and toughness indicated on the right side. It also has any abilities found in the lower striation of the text box. All Spacecraft save The Eternity Elevator become creatures once they reach the indicated number of charge counters, and they all have flying. The Eternity Elevator will have the abilities listed in that part of the text box, but it won't become an artifact creature.

Spacecraft cards have a special card frame with a grey text box. The Station cost is depicted in a circle on the lower left of the text box. The power/toughness is printed on the right. The lower part of the text box has a slightly darker color. This part is only activated if the station cost has been reached. Thus, Spacecraft don't have power or toughness unless they become creatures.

Some Spacecraft have multiple levels with different station costs. In that sense, they are a new take on the Level up mechanic.

Spacecraft often have smaller abilities that take immediate effect, to mitigate the loss of tempo and the time that is needed to gain the Station threshold.

Rulings

  • Spacecraft is an artifact type with no special meaning. It doesn't grant the artifact any intrinsic abilities. Other cards may care about which artifacts are Spacecraft.[2]
  • Legendary Spacecrafts with a printed power and toughness are eligible to be your deck's Commander.[1]
