January	Release of Salvat 2011 in the Spanish market. Initially released with Salvat #01: Alas de luz (Wings of Light).
February 4	Release of Mirrodin Besieged. Introducing Event decks. The prerelease featured faction packs and urged players to "Pick a Side". At the Game Day preview cards were revealed for both Mirrodin Pure and New Phyrexia.
February 10–13	Pro Tour Paris, France. Won by Ben Stark.
March 11	Release of the Deck Builder's Toolkit 2011. Second and last Toolkit to be sold as a separate product.
April 1	Release of Duel Decks: Knights vs. Dragons.
April 1	Announcement of Duet Decks: Liliana with Gideon. April Fools.
	Complete New Phyrexia set leaked when unauthorized players gained access to the set's "God Book"
May 13	Release of New Phyrexia. Introducing Phyrexian mana. Only 10% of the cards belonged to the Mirran faction.
May 19	Modern introduced as a non-sanctioned Magic Online format.
June 10–12	Pro Tour Nagoya, Japan. Won by David Sharfman.
June 17	Release of Commander. Based on the casual fan-made and maintained Elder Dragon Highlander format (EDH). EDH officially renamed Commander.
July 15	Release of Magic 2012. Introducing Booster Battle Packs; semi-random two-player game packs.
