January 26	Release of Murders at Karlov Manor: The Case of the Three Blade Knife, a murder mystery game by Beadle & Grimm's.
January	Erik Lauer retires from Wizards of the Coast after 17 years. At the time of his retirement, Mark Rosewater considered him to have been in the top 10 people who most influenced Magic design.
February 5	Release of Secret Lair Drop Series: Winter Superdrop 2024.
February 9	Release of Murders at Karlov Manor. First set to use Play boosters.
February 23-25	Release of Ravnica: Clue Edition (Ravnica: Cluedo Edition in non-North American markets). Includes mechanically unique, eternal-legal cards. MagicCon Chicago, USA. Introduces Planechase Unknown for Black Lotus VIP badge holders. Features Pro Tour Murders at Karlov Manor. Won by Seth Manfield. The Secret Lair Showdown. The Cosplay Best in Show. Won by Arielle (AirBubblesCosplay) as Rowan Kenrith in Rowan, Scion of War (Wilds of Eldraine). The Unknown Event. Secret Lair Drop Series: Burning Revelations is made available.
February 26	Release of Secret Lair Drop Series: Sheldon's Spellbook.
March 5	Release of Alchemy: Karlov Manor.
March 8	Release of Universes Beyond: Fallout.
March 11	The banned and restricted list announcement for Murders at Karlov Manor. Modern: Violent Outburst is banned. Vintage: Ponder is unrestricted.
April 8	Release of Secret Lair Drop Series: Equinox Superdrop 2024.
April 19	Release of Outlaws of Thunder Junction. Includes Breaking News bonus sheet. Includes The Big Score, replacing The List cards with Standard-legal cards.
April 26-28	Cynthia Williams officially steps down as president and CEO of Wizards of the Coast. Pro Tour Thunder Junction in Seattle, Washington, USA. Won by Yoshihiko Ikawa.
May 7	Release of Alchemy: Thunder Junction. Gladiator: The One Ring and Reanimate are banned.
May 13	Release of Secret Lair Drop Series: Spring Superdrop 2024. Features Universes Beyond Hatsune Miku. The banned and restricted list announcement for Outlaws of Thunder Junction. Pauper: All that Glitters is banned. All cards that bring a sticker into the game are banned. Legacy: All cards that bring a Sticker or an Attraction into the game are banned. Vintage: All cards that bring a Sticker or an Attraction into the game are banned.
May 21	Release of The Magic: The Gathering Oracle Deck by Clarkson Potter, a division of Penguin Random House.
June 14	Release of Modern Horizons 3. Includes an bonus sheet with New-to-Modern reprints. Last set to be released in the Portugese language.
June 24	Release of Secret Lair Drop Series: Summer Superdrop 2024. Features one Universes Beyond Hatsune Miku drop. Features two Universes Beyond Assassin's Creed drops. The annual banned and restricted list announcement sees no changes to any formats. The mobile game Magic SpellSlingers is terminated.
June 28-30	MagicCon Amsterdam, NLD. Features Pro Tour Modern Horizons III. Won by Simon Nielsen. The Secret Lair Showdown. Won by Toni Ramis Pascual. The Cosplay Best in Show. July 5	Release of Universes Beyond: Assassin's Creed. First set to use Beyond Boosters.
July 10	Oathbreaker: All cards that bring a sticker or an Attraction into the game are banned.
July 14	Wouter Noordzij wins Arena Championship 6.
July 18	Hasbro announces that John Hight will become President and CEO/COO of Wizards of the Coast and Digital Gaming. Holly Barbacovi takes on the role of Chief People Officer.
July 29	Release of Secret Lair Drop Series: Inside an Elevator Superdrop.
August 2	Release of Bloomburrow. Last set to be releases in the Chinese (simplified) language. Introduction of Value Boosters. Standard Rotation: Innistrad: Midnight Hunt, Innistrad: Crimson Vow, Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty and Streets of New Capenna leave the format. Alchemy Rotation: Dominaria United, The Brothers' War, Phyrexia: All Will Be One, March of the Machine, March of the Machine: The Aftermath, The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth and the Alchemy 2023 sets leave the format.
August 3	Wizards of the Coast reveals the launch of Mystery Booster 2 as a convention-exclusive set at Gen Con.
August 19	Festival in a Box for MagicCon: Las Vegas 2024 goes on sale. Includes Mystery Booster 2 and Secret Lair Drop Series: Li’l Legends.
August 20	Release of Alchemy: Bloomburrow.
August 26	The banned and restricted list announcement for Bloomburrow. Explorer: Amalia Benavides Aguirre and Sorin, Imperious Bloodlord are banned. Pioneer: Amalia Benavides Aguirre and Sorin, Imperious Bloodlord are banned. Modern: Grief and Nadu, Winged Wisdom are banned. Legacy: Grief is banned. Vintage: Urza's Saga and Vexing Bauble are restricted.
August 27	Release of Secret Lair Drop Series: Dungeons & Dragons 50th Anniversary Superdrop as part of the Dungeons & Dragons 50th anniversary celebrations. Available from both secretlair.wizards.com and D&D Beyond Marketplace.
Early September	Release of March of the Machine Deluxe Commander Kits exclusively at US and Canada Costco stores. Each kit includes a foil Ajani, Mentor of Heroes and Jace, Memory Adept as unique promo cards.
September 23	The Commander Rules Committee releases their quarterly banned and restricted list update. Commander: Dockside Extortionist; Jeweled Lotus; Mana Crypt and Nadu, Winged Wisdom are banned.
September 26	Josh Lee Kwai resigns from the Commander Advisory Group, having served since the group was established in 2019.
September 27	Release of Duskmourn: House of Horror. Introduction of Room cards. Reintroduction Welcome Decks Kristen Gregory resigns from the Commander Advisory Group, having served since 2021.
September 30	Release of Secret Lair Drop Series: Camp Totally Safe Superdrop. Features one Universes Beyond Hatsune Miku drop. One Universes Beyond Child's Play drop. Two Universes Beyond Ghostbusters drops. In response to threats members of the Commander Rules Committee received after the banning in September, it made the decision to hand control of the Commander format to Wizards of the Coast, and dissolved both itself and the Commander Advisory Group.
October 10	Release of the first volume of the Destroy All Humans. They Can’t Be Regenerated manga in English.
October 14	Release of Secret Lair Drop Series: Pixel Perfect, the Secret Lair drop for Extra Life 2024.
October 15	Release of Alchemy: Duskmourn.
October 18	During a panel at New York Comic Con, Wizards of the Coast and Marvel Entertainment reveal Secret Lair Drop Series: Marvel Superdrop and tease Marvel's Spider-Man. Attendees of the panel each receive: A foil promo Counterspell themed for Doctor Strange. One of two special comic books with cover art variants of Wolverine, Best There Is or Storm, Force of Nature. Release of the Duskmourn "Nightmare Bundle".
October 22	Gavin Verhey announces the establishment of the Commander Format Panel to replace the Commander Advisory Group. A banned and restricted announcement is released for Magic: The Gathering Arena. Arena Standard (best-of-one): Leyline of Resonance is banned. It remains legal in Traditional Standard (best-of-three) matches. Alchemy: Leyline of Resonance is suspended pending a rebalance.
October 25–27	MagicCon Las Vegas, USA Features World Championship 30. Javier Dominguez is crowned World Champion and Player of the Year. The Limited Open. The Secret Lair Showdown. The Unknown Event. The Cosplay Best in Show. Won by MagicMarker Studio portraying Snapcaster Mage (Innistrad). The Cosplay Grand Championship. Won by Mbare Evans portraying Caradora, Heart of Alacria. Secret Lair Drop Series: Burning Revelations is made available. Mystery Booster 2 is officially made available. Announcement Day At The Foundations of Magic’s Next Era panel, Wizard's of the Coast announces some major changes to Magic: The damage assignment order system is removed from the game starting with Magic: The Gathering Foundations. MSRP will be released for products starting with Magic: The Gathering Foundations. All Universes Beyond sets that include Play Boosters will be Standard-legal, starting with Final Fantasy in 2025. The release date of Wrestling (the return to Lorwyn) has been delayed to 2026. Standard rotation will change to use calendar years from 2027 onwards. Sets will rotate out of Standard with the release of the first new set of each year. To accommodate this change, there will be no Standard rotation in 2026.
November 4	Release of Secret Lair Drop Series: Marvel Superdrop.
November 15	Release of Magic: The Gathering Foundations, an evergreen Standard set. Includes the: Beginner Box Starter Collection Starter Collection Commander cards Release of Foundations Jumpstart.
December 2	Without announcements or fanfare, Wizards of the Coast adds the Chaos Vault webshop to their Secret Lair product line.
December 9	Release of Secret Lair Drop Series: The Fairest Drop of All. Marks the first of the Chaos Vault drop series.
December 10	Release of Pioneer Masters on Magic: The Gathering Arena. Draft boosters include the Planeswalker bonus sheet until December 24th.
December 15	Keisuke Sato () wins Arena Championship 7.
December 16	The banned and restricted list announcement for Magic: The Gathering Foundations. Explorer: Jegantha, the Wellspring is banned. Pioneer: Jegantha, the Wellspring is banned. Modern: Amped Raptor, Jegantha, the Wellspring and The One Ring are banned. Faithless Looting, Green Sun's Zenith, Mox Opal and Splinter Twin are unbanned. Legacy: Psychic Frog and Vexing Bauble are banned.
December 24	Draft boosters of Pioneer Masters switch to the Spells bonus sheet until January 7th, 2025.
