Through the Ages (stylized as FINAL FANTASY Through the Ages) is a non-Standard-legal bonus sheet associated with Final Fantasy.[2][3] Both were released on June 13, 2025.
Through the Ages is a separate set of cards found in Final Fantasy boosters, featuring the FCA expansion code. For Through the Ages, Wizards of the Coast have reprinted total of 64 creatures (17 uncommons, 32 rares, 15 mythic rares) on skinned cards with existing concept art from the Final Fantasy series, highlighting original Final Fantasy source material from artists such as Yoshitaka Amano and Tetsuya Nomura.[2] These are only legal in formats that the base card is already legal in (Commander, Legacy, and Vintage). While they are not part of the Standard environment, the cards may be used in Limited events and are part of your card pool in a Sealed Deck tournament. In a Booster Draft tournament, you must draft those cards for them to be included in your card pool.
The cards themselves are borderless full art and use the same font and graphic design elements normally seen on Special Guests. Other than text and mana symbols, there are no frame elements present on the cards. The information below the text box includes details as to which game in the Final Fantasy franchise the card belongs to.
The Through the Ages printings of these cards each feature an alternate name on the primary title bar and a secondary title bar below the name line that shows the card's name as listed in the Oracle reference. For the purposes of format legality, deck construction, game rules, and effects, these cards have only the card name specified in the secondary title bar. The alternate name has no effect on gameplay.[4]
Although Through the Ages' has a dedicated expansion symbol, this doesn't appear on the card, but is only on MTG Arena.Apparently this is done because expansion symbols on bonus sheets are believed to imply format legality that isn’t true.[5]
MTG Arena
Through the Ages is available in Final Fantasy drafts on Magic: The Gathering Arena and will be legal in the Historic, Timeless, and Brawl formats. The set brings 19 cards to the platform for the first time and none were preemptively banned, though some were already banned. Most are from Commander series products with the balance including historically significant cards like Brainstorm.
Distribution
Unlike previous sets with bonus sheets, Through the Ages cards do not have a dedicated slot in Final FantasyPlay Boosters, nor are they found in the wildcard or traditional foil slot.[3] Instead, players will find an uncommon (63.25%), rare (29.75%), or mythic rare (7%)Through the Ages card in one out of every three Play Boosters. When a Through the Ages card is in a Play Booster, it will replace one of the common cards.
As a bonus sheet, Through the Ages does not contain any tokens, but several cards in the set generate tokens, so a list is provided below for reference.
