Brian David-Marshall is a former Magic: The Gathering pro player, emiritus Pro Tour Historian and well known commentator.
Description
Brian David-Marshall, known widely by his initials as BDM, has been involved with Magic since the mid-nineties. He has organized tournaments as a founder of Gray Matter Conventions and reinvented the modern gaming store as tournament centers with the world famous Neutral Ground in New York City. Brian became a columnist for Wizards of the Coast and wrote multiple columns on Sideboard.com and DailyMTG.com over the years.
In addition to writing his "The Week That Was" column, David-Marshall provided play-by-play commentary at Grand Prix and Pro Tour events; he had been a part of official coverage since the beginning of the professional scene and served as a judge at the very first Pro Tour in 1996. When he joined the Pro Tour coverage team In the early 2000s het started out writing text features but it was not long before he was working on camera where he invented video deck techs, took viewers behind the closed doors of Pro Tour playtest houses, doing live-from-the-floor reporting, and commentating Top 8 matches. In 2005, when the Magic the Gathering Hall of Fame was inaugurated, BDM became the Pro Tour Historian (now, Emeritus) and presided over each induction ceremony through 2019.
After some 17 years of coverage, and 9 years as a store owner and tournament organizer before that, he ended his professional relationship with Magic in February 2019 (Though, he briefly returned in March 2019's Mythic Invitational as a player, due to Owen Turtenwald's unexpected event withdrawal).[1]
He is co-owner and founder of "To Be Continued LLC" — a publishing house which published Michael J. Flores: Deckade — and Top8Magic.com. He is a co-founder and former owner of Neutral Ground.
