Battle cry is a triggered ability first introduced in Mirrodin Besieged and gives a +1/+0 bonus to each other attacking creature, thus being more or less an inversion of Exalted.[2][3]
History
After Mirrodin Besieged, Battle cry made appearances in Unstable and Modern Horizons[4]. The mechanic has no creative difficulties, with its medium Storm Scale score largely due to its forgettability.
Battle cry reappeared as a one-off in the Warhammer 40,000 Forces of the Imperium commander deck and as one of the non-evergreen, non-deciduous keywords included in the Unfinity sticker sheets. It was also a one-off in Dominaria United Commander, and made a cameo in Phyrexia: All Will Be One on Ria Ivor, Bane of Bladehold, a compleat version of the character in Hero of Bladehold.
Seven cards with battle cry originally carried the Mirran watermark.[5]
Alchemy: Eldraine used battle cry as a tribute to Brothers Yamazaki on Syr Joshua and Syr Saxon.
Rules
From the glossary of the Comprehensive Rules (June 7, 2024—Modern Horizons 3)
- Battle Cry
- A keyword ability that makes other attacking creatures better in combat. See rule 702.91, “Battle Cry.”
From the Comprehensive Rules (June 7, 2024—Modern Horizons 3)
- 702.91. Battle Cry
- 702.91a Battle cry is a triggered ability. “Battle cry” means “Whenever this creature attacks, each other attacking creature gets +1/+0 until end of turn.”
- 702.91b If a creature has multiple instances of battle cry, each triggers separately.
Rulings
- The +1/+0 bonus applies to each other attacking creature, but not to the creature with battle cry itself.
- The +1/+0 bonus remains until the end of the turn, even if the creature with battle cry leaves the battlefield or stops being an attacking creature.
- If a creature with battle cry attacks more than once in a turn (due to an additional combat phase being created), its battle cry ability will trigger each time. The results are cumulative.
- In Two-Headed Giant and other multiplayer variants where players share a turn, attacking creatures controlled by a teammate also receive the +1/+0 bonus.

- Battle Cry was considered as the Boros mechanic for Guilds of Ravnica.[6]
- Honored Crop-Captain and Renegade Warlord have a form of Battle Cry that is phrased "other attacking creatures get" rather than "each other attacking creature gets".
- Syr Joshua and Syr Saxon, as a designed-for-digital card, grants itself battle cry when there are two copies of it on the battlefield.
