The Razor Fields on Mirrodin, also called the Razor Plains[1], were named after the "razorgrass" that grew there. Bringer used to shine above them.
Description
The razorgrass that covered the Razor Fields were long metallic rods with blade-like edges. They rang like chimes in the winds of the plane.[2] The Razor Fields received near-constant sunlight, causing the tanned complexion and bleached hair of the Auriok.[3]
History
When the Leonin established their dominance over the Razor Fields, Taj-Nar was already the largest den.[4] Located in the center of the Fields, it was chosen as the leonin capital. The nomadic Auriok wandered these plains, trading with those they encountered. Bladehold was one of their settlements. Another race populating this area were the loxodons, huge, elephantine humanoids. Pterons, pterodactyl-like flying creatures, soar the skies above the Razor Fields.[5]
After the phyrexian compleation of Mirrodin, the former surface was rendered a wasteland known as the Mirrex. The metallic plains of Mirrodin were replaced by the luminous Fair Basilica as the dominant white-aligned terrain on the plane, deep within as New Phyrexia's seventh layer.
Known locations
Before the Phyrexians' conquest, the Razor Fields were the center of the Auriok and leonin cultures.
- Bladehold, the largest Auriok settlement.[3] A center of commerce and artisanship, it was built on a mesa above a huge swath of particularly tall and sharp razorgrass. The most celebrated Auriok fighters trained in the dense razorgrass, where they invented a technique called mirroring, in which one used their reflection in the surrounding razorgrass to confuse an enemy and gain positional advantage. Rescued by Ria Ivor during the Mirran-Phyrexian War before her compleation.[6]
- The Cave of Light, location of the white Lacuna
- Lowlight was an encampment formed by surviving leonin abunas led by Kemba situated near the Cave of Light. It was surrounded by enchantments that protected it from the intense heat of the Great Furnace. The camp was made from scraps of skin and geometrically raised crests of the floor's metal. Squealstokes often raided the camp, looking for things to burn.
- Taj-Nar, the largest leonin den located in the Fields' center.
- Ten Shields, a trade settlement used by both Auriok and leonin
