Marek was a Vedalken soldier and the commander of Lord Pontifex's elite guard on Mirrodin.[1]
History
With his Master, he chased Glissa across Mirrodin to bring her to Memnarch. He was part of the attack on Glissa's band in the Razor Fields, where Pontifex ordered him to kill the elf, to Marek's surprise. Although he felt forced to obey, swinging his axe at the prone Glissa, he was relieved when his attack was blocked by the neurok Bruenna. Marek then joined Pontifex as they traveled through the Mephidross to the Vault of Whispers, where they once again attacked Glissa's party. This time, they were forced back by the emergence of Kaldra, who rose from beneath Geth's throne room, blasting the floor apart and sending the vedalken fleeing. [1]
Following Pontifex down into Mirrodin's Core, they sent a sawtooth thresher battalion to capture Glissa and her friends. While all of this had been happening, Marek had come to realize the depth of Pontifex's betrayal of Memnarch. By seeking to kill Glissa, Pontifex went against Memnarch's direct orders to bring him to his lair. So when Pontifex had Glissa trapped and vulnerable, Marek intervened and saved her life. He started to fight against Pontifex, and quickly had the former Synod leader at his mercy. However, Pontifex ruled away and launched his blades into Marek's body, killing him, while Marek at the same time reacted by slashing Pontifex's throat with his halberd. Thus, the two former friends ended up killing each other.[1]
