Neyali is a Vulshok rebel from the Oxidda Chain on New Phyrexia.

Description

Before the Phyrexian invasion consumed her homeland, Neyali belonged to the Tribe of the Helm in the Oxidda Chain.[1] She trained the native birds to carry messages among the scattered Vulshok groups. One day, she discovered a faintly glowing egg that appeared to have been left behind, and she took it in, determined to care for it. Her village did not survive much longer — the Phyrexians struck soon after, leaving Neyali and her egg as the only ones left alive.[2]

She wandered through the broken remains of Mirrex for weeks, clinging to the hope that the egg would hatch.[1] Alone and hunted, she promised herself that she would keep moving to guard this last piece of her old life. When she was finally cornered by Phyrexian centurions and close to collapse, the egg broke open — and from it emerged Otharri, a blazing phoenix whose flames incinerated her attackers.

Guided by Otharri, Neyali reached Slagmaw, a hidden Mirran rebel camp.[1] There, the resistance forged special hexgold falconer's gloves for her, letting her channel her birds' burning power in battle. Neyali's flock grew, and the phoenixes that fought by her side came to stand for the hope that Mirrodin could be reborn.

Not long after joining the camp, Neyali took up leadership of the resistance cell from Elham.[2] When her childhood friend Reyana chose to be compleated by Slobad, Neyali led an attempt to save her. Though Neyali was captured, she escaped with Otharri's help, forced to abandon Reyana and continue the struggle against New Phyrexia with her surviving fighters.
