A towering city of gold, Taj-Nar, called the First Den, the Ancient Den and the Rebuilt Den at various points in history, was the city and refuge of the leonin on Mirrodin.[1] It was here that the leonin kha, or king, resided.

Description

Taj-Nar was located above a great valley surrounded by hills. In the middle of the valley, the huge tower seemed to erupt from a large hill. Columns of metal stretched up and out, buttressing several conical levels high up in the air. Metal spikes grew from the tops of the columns all around the city, like a clawed hand holding Taj Nar in its palm.[2]

At the base of Taj-Nar was the Cave of Light, containing the Great Deep[2], the white lacuna, where legend tells leonin clerics known as abunas focused their faith and cause the white sun to rise every day.[1]

After the city was lost, the gleaming silver and white parapets of the city walls looked as if they had been melted by some great heat, and from a distance resembled grasping claws clutching at the distant moons. What was left of the city interior was little more than a burned-out shell of mangled leonin architecture. The palace was entirely gone, reduced to a mountain of rubble in the center of it all. One of the needle spires sprouting from Mirrodin's surface punctured the rubble to pierce the sky above.[3]

History

When the leonin established their dominance over the Razor Fields, Taj-Nar was already the largest den.[1] Located in the center of the Fields, Dakan, the first kha, chose it as the leonin capital.[1]

Taj-Nar was visited by Glissa of the Tangle, who unwittingly brought Memnarch's forces to attack the city while searching for her. Glissa left the city soon after the death of Rishan, daughter of the seer Ushanti. The city was later destroyed by a mana bomb, supposedly by the kha, Raksha Golden Cub, himself. However, Vektro, a creature that could inhabit living beings, had stolen the identity of Glissa's sister, Lyese, and was the true culprit in the city's destruction.

The Den laid a smoldering crater for years, a symbol of The Vanished Ones and the missing kha. Under the guidance of Kemba, the Regent, Taj-Nar was painstakingly rebuilt, but with greater magical defenses. The newly-created Regent's Guard, an elite force of leonin warriors, mages, and skyhunters, defended the Den at all times.[4]

What happened to Taj-Nar through the creation of New Phyrexia is unknown.
